When I first started playing I thought I would farm XP by killing mobs in each zone. But the rewards are tiny. So I focused on quests, Adventure Tome completion, and dungeons. Side quests offer the lore and flavor I wanted and there are a few types of main quest lines that I pushed down to unlock new content and features. I feel like the game actually opens up and begins at 50.
There are probably folks here who have played a lot more hours than me and might have some better insights. But that has been my experience.
To be fair journey from level 1 to 50 is just a big introduction .
The real game and content starts at level 50.
But even side-quests have a good writing in them, so any type of players will enjoy the leveling process just depends on the person and his goals.
If player wants to just get to the end-game he should just follow the Main Quest Line and ignore the rest until the 4th continent (Steampunk one) there you will have to do everything.
On the other hand , those who rushed 50 will still return to earliest locations for collectibles and extra stat points that are needed for affinity and so on.
There are a lot of guides so check them and decide for yourself .
really helps with the story part usually you don't care about that stuff and rapidly fire through it but this game seems to have a decent enough story. (like kotor)
But, if you want to experience all of the game then do all of the side quests too...it's a good idea to at least check the side quests, though, because they might have some decent rewards for you. You can also plow into your Adventure Book and start collecting mokoko beans. The Adventure Book is mandatory because there are skill points locked up in some of the regions. Collecting mokoko seeds isn't a top priority, but what the hell...you're standing right next to one!
So you will start at lvl 10 with subclass selected. It's sad because every class had his own starting story.
leveling from 10 to 50 is good because of story and learning new skills (obtained while leveling). It's best part of game for me.
As soon as you ding lvl 50 new content will be ready tor you. Dungeons, raids, cube, towers, islands...
Some are boring some are good. Just be prepared for never ending item level hunt :)
