We have to make our demands clear to the market. The market has to be aware of the demand. And then try to meet the demands by changing the requested parts of the product.
In my experience Genderlocks dont have much of a market in the west because nearly every western MMO features a character creation without genderlocks.
Now is the question if Amazon Games has the power to meet our western demands or not.
Cheers, mate.
Amazon only publishes, Smilegate develops. Sure there is communication but still... im sure gender locks do not influence player counts by a huge margin. What i am also sure about is that there are more people crying in Asia about gender locks than in the west, so that part is covered.
What i am also sure about is that almost all players here want the game to launch so we can start playing, and rather wait months or a few years to get to salivate on the silky smooth skin of our female avatars.
I know Asian MMOs that get published by western publishers.
It is impossible to reach out to the developers and our only chance is that Amazon Games recognizes us. They absolutely do that.
But even then it is not clear if the information will be given to the developers and if they are given, the developers have to actually care about these western informations.

Different players have different preferences on this topic, and that is completely okay. When it comes to MMORPGs I personally prefer to play characters that are my same gender, so I understand that perspective well. Something I found interesting was that one of my colleagues mentioned when they roll a new character in Lost Ark, they see it as playing a preset character instead of creating their own avatar -- like in story-driven RPGs where you play a predefined character. I know it isn't necessarily a solution for people who feel strongly about this, but it's just a bit of food for thought I wanted to share. :)
By the way story-driven RPGs (or real RPGs) mostly feature a character creation without gender-lock.
Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Divinity, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Greedfall, Cyberpunk 2077, SWTOR, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Baldur's Gate 3, The Outer Worlds, Pillars Of Eternity, Pathfinder
Sims 4 does also have a much higher female gamer rate than other games.
Most (around 90%) of female players will play a female character if they can choose it.
Around 30% of guys prefer playing female characters if they can choose to.
The rate of guys wanting to play female characters will probably even be higher in Lost Ark.
You’d have to get a very large sample size of the entire LA player base, then you’d have to set up some type of system like the Reddit verification system and have people take screenshots of them beside their character, with a piece of paper verifying time and date and then collect all that data and make percentages based off that.
Anyone can throw numbers and percents out there for topics like, “ x players play female and x players play males” - there’s just no efficient or practical way of ever really knowing.
You could have some beast of a man, like 280lbs 10% body fat guy, playing a loli character dressed up like a carrot. You never know.
As a side note, I do have good news for you specifically, actually! We revealed the Striker as out 15th class today, which is a male Martial Artist.
