Is this game friendly to new players?

As someone who has had this game in my library for a while because the look of it intrigued me, I have never taken the time to actually play it because I'm scared of learning the different mechanics and can't pretend I know anything in regards to what this game is about or how it should be played :/

Lmao, there is a lot of delusional and copium inhaler in this thread, so I need to spell some truth. While the raid and combat is top notch, but that is just about it, everything else about this game is frankly not newbie friendly or straight up predatory. After the first honeymoon phase, the deeper into the game, the more frustration the newbie will have.

None of the game core issues have fixed only getting worse :

"Gate keeping" : Expect a lot of gatekeeping with low roster level and card as a new player. Your level 8 event gems, Deep Dive card set and 1580 express pass while good for older raids, will mean very little in the latest raid like Akkan . People expect high roster, Los 18/30 card , lv 9+ gems , good quality gear, 5x3+1 engraving ect....

Newbie will face lobby simulator waiting for supports if new player do not have anyone willing to help.

Although joining a discord may be helpful in the beginning since nice people took pity and teach newbie a few raid runs , eventually newbie will need to pug on their own and face gatekeeping. I spoke from my own experience as having been in multiple discords as a learners as well as teachers for raids. Even in discord, there are also very toxic person. But there are still some nice discords out there that you can make friend , it is all depending on luck to meet the right person to form group.

A bit about raids, each raid needs 10-20 hours to learn mostly to be familiar with pattern and mech. After you learn it, it getting very easy. But mostly the community will gatekeep for 10 times reclear title, which is a chicken and egg problem at this point due to gatekeeping.

"Heavy RNG progression" with many system (honing, card, gem, quality , stone cutting and lost ark just get elixir this update and about to get 2 more with upcoming raids. ). The 1580 helps a bit, but to get into 1600+ which is the new standard for latest raid expect months of farming gold and material and pray that RNG god don't make you pitied too much.

"Toxic community" : Nothing much to say here. Lots of nuts in pug, partially because legion raid design is punishing with wipe mech when one person make mistake, but also the community has a lot no-lifer and sweatlord that want to speed run everything , which is easy to understand with they have 18 raids per roster to run a week :)).


In conclusion, OP, you can try the game for yourself , but be aware of all the issues. I got into this game over a year ago, and people also warned me before hand and they spoke the truth.

its the same in every other mmorpg, why would any strong group take a weakling that isn't geared or prepared for the raid? makes no sense, you would just be dead weight.

I am not sure how often you play this game, try to make a lobby with a mokoko seed (newbie) on your head , expect to wait forever to get lobby to fill. Been there saw that before as I want to help some mokoko learn.

People mostly now not gatekeep you becuase of ilevel with the event since it is easy to reach 1540-1580 , they gatekeep roster level and card which show that you are experienced or not. More hardcore lobby will look for gear quality and stat distribution.

Some of these users don't know the difference of pay to win and pay to progress and it's hilarious.
They think a fully pve game where you fight in a group against an npc is p2w and that's when you know the haters don't know what they're talking about.
Some will even go so far to say this game is p2w yet play bdo and see nothing wrong with that game LMAO just shows how brainwashed some truly are.
If they actually knew anything about p2w they should really look up Archeage.

Game is not only unfriendly to new players, it feels like it actively tries to get people to uninstall unless they p2w absurd amounts of money.
It was so disgusting it made me delete the game from my steam library in the end

It is impossible to get a satisfying experience out of this game without p2w, unless you accept the rotten business practices of smilegate and implement the game into your daily schedule to let these devs create a habit.
The habit in this case being playing lost ark on a daily and weekly basis.
Because with a habit you are more likely to stick to the game.
For me personally it just makes a game feel like work. and many other people feel the same way.

But they dont care about normal people. they care about the people staying in the game which are easily manipulated. Gambling addicts and so on.
Those are the ones which will spend the most money

I did play BDO in the past and i would say the game is highly flawed.
Yet it is the way better playable game as a low spender. nobody is hindering you doing anything in that game when you dont spend money with the exception of pvp maybe.
Lost Ark keeps throwing rocks in your path left and right, while it disguises as the seemingly more fair game at the start.
