It was never p2w as described, most say you have to put money in to progress / stay relevant, you dont. it will take some time to reach current end game, but there is enough content leading up to that, to keep you entertained if you are enjoying the game before you get to it.

there are jump start servers just came up, meant to excel new / returning players to end game with ease of effort... although i have no idea how these will end up turning out. theyll either be merged in 6 months or sooner if they fail...

my advice, try it out, find a class you love. play it, dont fomo or play too many alts too quickly, if the game begins to feel to grindy or you're just not enjoying the setup / raids, then step away, its probably not for you!

it still has some crappy systems like cards / runes but these are far easier to get with some recent QOL updates. daily activities are reduced to 10 mins a char that should be done at rested, so 2 chaos every 2 days, 1 guardian every 2 days.
