What's up with this opening?

Why is it playing a cutscene about a mission I never went on, narrated by someone i've never met, talking about people that I don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ know and they're acting all the time like I should know what's going on?

Was there an entire tutorial that got cut?
The female gunslinger story video is even worse. it just explicable has you teleport around, then a character calls you out on teleporting and asks how you did that, but your character doesn't respond. Then the enemy(?) ascends to godhood(?) and you shoot them once and they die.

What the hell is actually going on.
This is not a good intro to your story. You gotta introduce the worldbuilding and tell people who any of these characters are or why we should care.
C'mon man. I'm not expecting Tolkien, but at least put a little bit of effort in.

Why am I picking an advanced class within seconds of starting the game. I literally only just got my regular class. I haven't even used it yet. Why am I switching already?
Is there NO regular class? If so, why don't you just choose your advanced class at chargen?

This... this whole thing feel extremely jarring. There's no sense of narrative or progression or of anything happening for a reason. The game just hurls things at you like you're in chapter 3 already and need to get caught up.

What's going on here? Is it supposed to be like this?

It's still doing it. Who is this woman? Where am I? Why am I on a boat? What even is my mission?
Why is an NPC handing me a new gun? I've literally just stepped off the boat, I don't even know what I have equipped at the moment, i've never fired my weapon, how is it outdated already?

it feels like I've been skipping cutscenes or I've jumped into the fourth game in a series, but this is the start of a damned MMO. Please at least try to have a coherent narrative.

Edit: What even is 'The Ark'? An NPC is talking about it, but nobody has actually explained what the Ark is, or why i'm looking for it.
Instead I get some vague crap about 'the world falling to chaos'.

I don't feel like i'm asking too much here. Literally just have a narrative.

The origin cutscene just tells a little bit of background about your character base class type, It has no influence on the story outside of a few minor changes in how certain NPCs address you. The rest of the story will explain what the Ark is what you are doing as you progress.

Korea used to have whole playable backstory sections for each main class, but no one liked them because they took an hour or something, so they got super-shortened into the cutscenes we have now.

Advanced class isn't "advanced", it's regular classes. Can't think of the word but all the classes like Assassin, Gunner, Warrior, Martial Artist and Mage are basically just categories, with different male and female versions if any, for each.

Dunno if the Ark got explained in the earlier backstory tutorials or if it's supposed to get explained later, which it does sorta.

since we got the short version, and start lvl10, it already feels like we miss something from the start.
wich makes the beggining wierd imo, imagine starting lord of the ring, and you get a short recap, of a mage going on a smol people town, they party, and then black knight try kidnapp the smol guys, so they form a bigger party, and the movie start there..

anyway, It clearly didn't get my attention, and for the rest of the story, it's a standard evil vs good guys, and there are no plots, no surpise, it's so basic, the bad voice acting didn't help.

I don't know why people say the story is great, it just felt boring af.

Oh, so I was right and it literally just is 'we cut out about an hours worth of content and background before the game started.'

At least leave it in and add an option to skip it or something. I don't even know what's going on.

just like darksouls the story 'backstory in this case' is not given but instead you find hints about it in the books the description of certan items , the side quests and so on , if you want to know why lost ark is lost ark i would recommend you to check out saintone he's a youtuber who has made i think 3 parts 1h30 each video about the lore of lost ark and i gotta say he's good at it

Was a very different game when it first released.
For example, If you wanted to play a Berserker you first had to make and play as a warrior for a few levels before you got the option to select an advanced class.
Later on the game got a bit of a overhaul and a lot of the early stuff got cut and streamlined.

'streamlined' isn't the word i'd use.
They hacked bits off to make it faster, but with those bits gone, the opening of the game doesn't actually make sense anymore.

And yeah, that's how advanced classes generally work. If they let you pick your advanced class immediately then you should just choose it at chargen and just have them be 'regular classes'
Not on minute-one of gameplay. It makes it feel like you haven't earned it.

I mean, its no different then several other games starting story. Someone mentioned it already but the dark souls series is similar with the questions your "asking".

You learn the lore as you go thru the story.

But if these are your complaints already, your best bet is to find another game. The very initial cuts of the very very start were done a LONG time ago before the west even got the game. DO note this game is from 2019, NOT from 2022.

... no it isn't. Don't even pretend that.
Dark souls feeds you it's worldbuilding in intentional drips and drabbles through item descriptions and snippets of dialogue.
The backstory of the world is an intentional puzzle for the player to piece together through the course of their playthrough.

This game just had an hours worth of intro directly deleted in post-production meddling.

In the first zone of Darksouls 1, Oscar of Astoria introduces himself.
He doesn't just act like you already know who he is even though you have no idea, because a whole level where your character met him was deleted from the damn game.
