I guess I didn't even consider that, there wasn’t really a lot to go off of since with reviews most people are like “arcanist bad” and then don’t fully explain why lol. I definitely love a challenge and have noticed a bit of one even at the beginning of the game, but overall still a really fun class I think!
btw and ofc it all comes down to rng
Yeah I had a feeling it’s still too early to tell since I’m only on tortoyk and there’s virtually no challenge lmao, so as of now she’s really fun. Definitely not something I’m used to but hoping to master arcanist mechs once I start joining lobbies later on.
Currently running empress (except a couple missing skill runes) since I’ve read it’s easier than emperor and also slowly getting my engravings sorted out. Is there anything you recommend for builds or even gems later on? I really wanna maximize early enough in the game to where I don’t struggle if I play her to endgame
That’s honestly what I’m struggling with. Like I can deal with stacking and her play style, I actually really love it. But with the cards I either completely forget about the deck or randomly use a card unless I hover over and read what it is.
Which I’m sure is fine for now but not something I wanna do at higher ilvl. So I guess I’m wondering if there’s any way to really memorize them or is it more like memorize key ones/randomly use them?
I think a lot of players who play it will just tell you that practice. So play play and play again.
I personally read the description of the cards every day before I start playing arcana (it's not my main) to remind myself but sooner or later you will remember.
btw, even today I mistook 'wheel of fate' with 'star' because they have similar illustrations hehe
nothing new here.
She's squishy, she's very gear-dependant (expect subpar performance until at the VERY LEAST 1430, and even still you're not a top dog the same way that say, Deathblade, Sorceress and such are) and on top of all that, she still has a relatively high skill cap with managing her decks, all to attain "average" performance. That's why "people don't like her". It's hard to justify (illustrative example) dumping 100 hours into learning the intricacies of a class to then have it perform at a standard that you can reach with 15 hours into another class.
Did I mention she's squishy? And unlike Sorceress, you can't just mail in your DPS from a different zipcode, you actually have to be somewhat in the thick of the fight. Add that to some builds actually using Ambush Master and requiring Back Attacks (I think it's *MOSTLY* variations of Emperor currently), and that's daunting to a lot of people.
Alternatively you can play Emperor and just chew through cards to get Emperor's procs, but still a significant portion of your damage is "locked" behind understanding the cards you draw and what drawing Card X or Y or Z does to your rotation, for the most part it's not just "draw and resume", they require adjustments to your next actions/skills based on what you draw.
I know Empress is kinda close range which is why I don't like it, but you don't really need to be melee range with Emperor.
I don't think any Emperor builds rely on back attacking. there's 2 skills at most that have it, and when we get the balance update you can chuck one of them. Empress is probably more likely to use it cause it's on 2 of the damage skills, assuming the balance update doesn't remove their back attacks.
Arguably or not, Arcana's also the best DPS in the game according to the top Arcana player in KR . Other classes can probably do it as well but he's got a short of him using a meme stagger build to do 2.2 billion damage to the monkey we get after 1460.
I stand corrected on the back attack thing, I get Empress/Emperor mixed up all the time
