Die? Gunlancer does not know die, only live and kaboom!
Take a backstep and realize the awesome survivability in your hands.
I play one and I find the most "cost efficient" class out there. Even way better than my Bard when it comes to cost - pot usage. I play a blue gunlancer though.
add in Spirit absortion as your 1st Engraving to get an extra 15% movement
Enjoy.
the only class i regret leveling is Gunslinger, its fun at the start with all the switching but it gets tedious and becomes a damn hassle, its absolutely impossible to play if your ping is higher than 300.
Hi!
That's the first initial reaction and its fair to have it
At lower Tiers blue lancer feels weak and red lancer feels squishy but we can make a budget purple lancer to solve all our issues! (colours are based on the colour of the skills in skill log)
BUT
you can turn it around and make the class awesome you just need to change a few things
Try this:
(We're going to make you a baby Purplelancer and you will enjoy this class 1000000% more after these changes, i had the same initial feelings as you did originally)
Please note: This to make your Gunlancer fun to play through T1/T2/T3, this is not for Argos most optimal DPS/min/max or anything and also ignore anyone who comes in later to say so because 1) dead dps do no dps 2) a gunlancer who cant stand infront of the boss isn't doing much and is unfun to play.
This will let you stand infront of the bosses and play counter games with them
(Assuming level 51 with 330 skill points for character)
Skills:
Leap Attack - Skill Level 10 - tripods: excellent mobility / electric field / low shock
This allows you to leap attack x 2 in a row and get around and position yourself better with some bonus AOE (think Barb from Diablo 3)
Guardian's Thunderbolt - Skill level 10 - tripods: Damage Luck(bonus bolt) / Tough Strike / Lightning Stalk - add a bleed rune to this since its one of your AOE's
This lets you hit a wide section of enemies (good for chaos dungeons) and hits further in the cross shape with the extra bolt
Surge Canon - Skill level 10 - tripods: High Explosive Shot / Confirmed Attack / Rotating Barrage - Add Bleed to this as well if you can since you hit everything around you in a circular firing motion
Rotating Barrage makes this skill a huge rotating AOE. Confirmed Attack takes away the charging of the skill to a 1 click and done approach (so you cant fail it in the middle of a hectic boss fight) - fantastic aoe for chaos dungeons
Shield Charge - skill level 7 - Sturdy Armor / Quick Pace
This lets you zip around the battlefield and reposition as you charge forward, turning your slow turtle tank into something that can keep up with the rest. the sturdy armor means in a pinch if you're about to get hit you can charge into it for -30% damage and tank it easier
Shout of Hatred - Skill level 10 - Quick Prep / Law of the Jungle / Open Weakness
This is your taunt skill and is also a massive AOE clear due to law of the jungle in chaos dungeons. You use this to get the boss to face you if they are not when they glow blue, then follow up with your counter skill to knock them down
Dash Upper Fire - Skill level 7 - Quick Prep / Wide Hit
This is your counter skill, i use this over bash because bash has a tiny range and there's nothing worse then not connecting your counter because you are 2 steps away from the boss. this has a dash forward as part of its counter so you will always hit the boss in the face with it
Nellasia's Energy - skill level 10 - Quick Pace / Shout of Purification / Survive
This puts a huge bubble of temporary HP on your entire party withing 24 yards of you for 24% of their hp for 6 seconds + everyone takes -25% damage for 6 seconds as well as a movement buff to help you get around. Shout of Purification is wonderful as it takes away debuffs like darkness (where you cant see 2 feet away from you) and fire/poison etc for the whole party which is a huge difference in gameplay on those bosses
You got a spare ability, i'm still tinkering, for now i use
Charged Stinger - Skill level 10 - Weak Point Detection / Tenacity / Last Charge
This is a heavy hitting skill with charge levels, tenacity means you can charge it without getting knocked around by bosses . consider a galewind rune to speed it up even further
Now for engravings :
Take Spirit Absorption and make it level 3 ASAP, either through your stone and skill books engraving or on your accessories. The +15% move/attack speed makes a world of difference. Instead of feeling like a turtle that gets hit by everything you now move and are no longer animation locked in slow skills to get hit by things you wanted to avoid
Take Combat Readiness, Level 1 to begin, 3 when you can later (or alternatively, leave it at 1 and focus on other things)
Heavy Armor. Take it at 1 for now, 3 for later. I know others will say take more +dmg, but if you are getting crushed by bosses and need to run away at any point, you're no longer gunlancing and the spirit of the class is broken. So take the extra +def and stand your ground (also saves on pots and other things as you take far less damage in the period without shields)
You have a few options now
For a leveling build you can consider something like preemptive strike level 1
This makes your first hit on everything you hit a crit, which makes life much easier in chaos dungeons and the like (useless on raid bosses later, but we're trying to get there for now and enjoy the class!)
You can go Crisis Evasion level 1 to have a free resurrect incase you die every 10 mins, that's purely up to you and your wants
I would go At T3 - Spirit Absorption 3 / Heavy Armour 3 / Combat Readiness 3 / Barricade 3+16% dmg while shield is on you OR Stabilised Status 3(16%+ dmg if your hp is 80% or higher) or Awakening (1/2 timer for Awakening skill + 3 uses in places) or Master Brawler or Increase mass or Adrenaline, whatever you can find and make a set out of that doesn't break your budget
Stats: Go Specialisation since for Gunlancer it increases both shield amounts and skill damage, necklace go specialisation/crit
Don't overstress your stats in T1/T2. Just stay away from Domination/Expertise. If you get the right stuff on your accessories but 1 of them is endurance or swiftness, its not the end of the world. The min/maxing comes later in T3 so just keep moving with the class and you will replace the gear soon enough
Remember, your Awakening skill (V skill) fully charges your purple line in the middle between your skills and pots, that is a full bar of shield, make sure you use that (ive changed my keys so i forget what the default is, its the left side one of the 2)
It will pop a bubble on you that makes you move slower but your bubble takes all hits until its depleted, protecting your HP and preventing you from being knocked down. This lets you stand toe to toe with bosses and be the gunlancer you wanted to be
This isn't a perfect guide, this is just my Alt that's still in Tier 2
My other recommendation is at the end of T2, buy up accessories/engraving/stone since they are 1 pheon and get the build where you want it to be, because you will be wearing them for a while in T3 until you can replace (you can replace with T3 stones easy enough, but the accessories take a while, and i caution against using massive amounts of pheons on anything when Valtan is coming around the corner and you will need them for relic accessories then!)
Edit: When its time for you to get to the endgame, click K, check your skills and click 'recommended, change it to 8 man raid and see what other gunlancers are using in Argos based on % of players to get a better feel for what others are using to see if there's anything you want to change to)
2nd edit: Also! to make use of the backward jump for the spacebar that other classes have as a roll. Mouse behind your character as you are running forward and hit spacebar so your char turns around and steps back in the actual direction you were running (they turn around and step back so its as if you mini rolled in the direction you want to go)
Uhhh... it’s one of the best classes in the game.
Just cleared Argos phase 2. Last man standing to finish the fight was a gunlancer. He also got mvp for most damage dealt at 30% with mediocre engravings.
Thats logicaly flawed...
If a gunlancer becomes MVP in dmg dealt and is the last man standing, it doesnt mean the gunlancer is good as a class, it only means that your team was increadibly bad.
If it comes to gunlancer then it can be almost immortal in good hands.
But being immortal doesn't mean you are usefull or can be called a tank.
Tank means a role that can take an aggro from the boss an lock him with CC.
From what I know, gunlancer have really short taunts that bug out most of the time so he cannot really take an aggro.
Bosses are hard to CC and its mostly revolving around counter rather than stagger.
Most classes have counter abilities so on 8 man raid you dont need special role for reliable counters as long as your team isnt braindead.
So gunlancer in my opinion is really bad since he cannot damage and cannot really tank well. Having an immortal rock in team doesn't really benefit anyone, thats why I would take bard or paladin with their OP shields and heals over gunlancer everyday.
Gunlancer is going to shine in mediocre team as last man standing and can cancel some boss skills to create dps window.
If you are the skilled brat with grudge and curse doll who can do raid without using pot, then tip hat to you.
