You gotta accept that it was funny and there is some truth to it in a funny way.
I started as a gunlancer main which there are things i like and some i regret, lately im playing pala. The thing is everyone always talk about how gunlancers make your life easier etc. but when you say that you are a blue gunlancer they kick you from raid without saying bye.
All of the above are true about group dmg buffs, shields, stagger etc. if you time them well.
A gunlancer is like a deep lying player-maker with a defensive duty sitting solo at the back of a midfield trio, while a paladin is a central midfield on support duty paired up with a partner in any midfield set-up.
Then you have to learn the Gunlancer playstyle properly. The taunt is incredible usefull.
Dark Legoros fight:
Once Legoros does his AoE attack on two legs, he follows with the close explosion attack. Always. Taunt him and no melee needs to go away. Sure, pugs don't move anyways, but the attack is a knockdown. Don't taunt him while he stands on two legs or you disrupt a free dps phase.
(Lava) Chromanium:
You can taunt his (potential) double stomp that kills many, many players. You see his legs twirling, taunt. Nice bonus, after a taunt he always does a counterable move. If he was countered shortly before, you still have counter stance.
Levanos:
His stationary whirlwind can be interrupted with taunt (I don't mean the counterable one). Or you lure him aways while his tree is out.
Calcentus:
Nothing you really need to taunt. His tail attack is a nice interrupt window for backstabber melees.
Armored Nacrasena:
The high jump can be taunted. No stun for melees. Lightning Strike can also be taunted. I do it on that when I play my Gunlancer.
Igrexion:
Triple Lightning can be taunted. Annoying attack for the person that is the target.
Shout of Hatred is NOT a dps skill or a pure shield gen. But somehow most Gunlancer use it that way. Really nice when they stand in the group and do shout of hatred. I lose my back attack and probably get hit by something. At that point, Gunlancer make the fight worse.
Either that group you already in have a static support or you are just exaggerating. With the long list of TAUNT Cancels and Nelia's Blessings a Gunlancer played correctly can save a raid group headaches. 2 Blue Gunlancer is actually bad for your group I can see how bad it can go.
I never failed once with my cheapest Gunlancer setup don't even have blue engravings except Expert (which surprisingly I use with my Bard main) except for one shot wipe mechanics. I rarely use pots with my Gunlancer, so it is cost efficient.
Again i'm not including the armor breaks and one of the highest staggers in game.
