In PvP it's the same kind of deal really. I had a maxed out Striker on RU and I did extremely well in PvP. Striker is super fast and can stagger lock other players constantly if you can keep up with the speed. It can also change attack directions mid combo which is really useful in PvP. There's numerous videos showing Striker 1v3 and winning easily.
It gets a bed rap because it's harder to be good with it than other classes. Most tier list type advice is based around ease to play vs results, not potential results.
Unwanted in Abyss, good at everything else though.
Striker still has lightning whisper just like wardancer to buff the party crit and atk speed?
It's not unwanted in Abyss. Sure, there's some tryhards that listened to some low level youtuber's tier list and might reject you but you shouldn't want to play with those people anyway so they are just doing you a favour.
Then again: Is there a reason to kick every Striker from the group and handle them as if they were unwanted? No, at least not if you have half a brain and social competence. If someone tells you: "class X is bad and you'll never see a raid from the inside with our group!" leave those clowns behind and look for someone else to play with... ooooooorrrrrr
Be the elitist number crouncher and play a different class ^^.
For PvE you have the issue that it's a back attack class, and your reach on attacks is very small compared to most other classes.
Most of your burst is in 1 skill and if you miss that you lose a lot of damage (also the skill has fairly long charge up time). You do have solid mobility though, you should be able to avoid all boss attacks with practice.
Having said that, the actual "feel" of the class, the combos and "one punch" skill do make it a fun class to play, I wouldn't recommend it if you want a powerful class, maybe if you intend to do a lot of 1v1 PvP then sure go ahead.
