Not a single MMORPG allows Botting/Cheating
3. Play Fair
Do not: cheat, bot, hack, or use other software or services that give you an unfair advantage.
A development studio very rarely comes out and says 'x software is ok' if it can be used in a way that has unforeseen consequences and/or can be used for things other than what someone is asking about. That is where macro programs are going to fall. So the safe bet? Air on the side of caution.
Ive have reported them more then, and I didn't go to jail
I would still like to know if you'll get flagged simply for using AutoHotKey. You can't hardbind essential keys and not expect people to look to alternatives. There has not been a clear answer to this question anywhere.
But, The basic rule of thumb that most online game companies go by is that 1 key stroke = 1 key stroke, End of story. If you follow that, you're not going to get in trouble basically ever for it. And I'd wager it's the same here- If you you use AHK to make your G press into an F press, you're not going to get in trouble. If you use AHK to make your G press into a '1, 2, 3, 4 potion, lmb to move, etc, etc, etc' macro, you're gonna get in trouble. Basically, don't use AHK to script/macro things.
That said, People still use AHK for legitimate purposes? Every keyboard and mouse I've ever owned in the last 20 years has had it's own personal program to rebind everything. (EG: Razer Synapse, Corsair's ICUE, etc)
I know no one endorses using third party software, but they've made announcements regarding the bots (and the scripts they have running to combat them) so it begs the question if they've blacklisted AHK.
So what this guy does is put up a turret every 20 seconds and farm like crazy for collectibles, isn't that banable because it's just a key press? (The key to put the turret)
A player killing over and over...and over...the same pack(s) of mobs is legal...like the 'chinese farmers' back in the time...
The 'chinese farmer' is on keyboard and is doing the action...he is 'playing', so, it is fine
An automated program doing the action (noone on keyboard) is not legal
It is a bot and noone is 'playing'
Generally, in online games...
Cheating / exploiting / modding / botting...are illegal
Now, just like IRL, it is not because something is illegal that you cant do it...especially if it is not really enforced or if the risk is low or harmless
But if you get caught and punished...well, dont cry ;D
