Lost Ark the biggest MMO in the world?

As the title suggests, Lost Ark is now the most played game on all of steam with slightly above half a million active players and the game is not even released yet and it's late in the night.

So what will the future hold when the flood gates open in a couple of days? Are we looking at the next biggest game in the world? Or perhaps even game of the year?

I've played the game for a few hours and I already love it. I can tell that this game is built with alot of passion and love for gaming

I can now easily understand why the Russians and koreans that already have played this game for awhile found themself loving it. And I am sure that us westerners will find ourself sharing their sentiments.

Like other people have said, it's the first day and the game has been seriously hyped. I mean, you see where master duel is at the moment, that game was also near the top on steam for a few days following release yet the numbers dropped just as quickly as they rose.

Keep in mind, when it comes to mmos, it's not just how good the game is but also how much content is in the game to keep players continuously hopping on each day.

Lost Ark have lots of content endgame. It's not like new world that was released without any endgame to do.

Lost ark wasnt hyped as much as new world either, and besides the game is free which is sure to draw in alot of players by itself. the 500k players right now will just be mere peanuts in comparison to the storm that is coming to our doorsteps

All mmos drop player numbers at some point or another. I'm not saying the games going to die, just like you stated how it's already a top mmo in both Korea and Russia I feel this game will also be a constant competitor towards the other current mmos that are popular. I just disagree with it being the biggest mmo in the world for many months to come.

Yeah we'll see what those number are like in a month. Launch day numbers mean little. It's player retention that's key to mmorpgs.

no way, wow has less then 1 million active player in north america now. I would say it's basically dead compare to how it was back in legion.

We don't really know numbers but WoW's current expansion was the most sold PC game or something like that, sold nearly 4 million copies back in nov 23 2020 and probably sold millions more after that over the years.

It has lost many players, me included over the expansion but it's very likely it will have over a million active players still and millions more who will return for the next expansion. The game also has a box price + sub while this game only costs us $15 for EA or free. I do think lost ark has a chance to have the largest world wide player base but we will need to wait another month or two before we see how many players quit playing the game as most people will likely not stay long term.
