How do you repair the door?
As the title says. I can't for the life of me figure out how to repair the door or make the money necessary to get gasoline for someone who apparently assumes that I have the money for it. Why did this NPC not GIVE me the money, or explain that I have to get money first? How about Goga being helpful instead of, well, obtuse?

I never had any problems with using mouse and keyboard, but the gameplay, oh man, it's so incredibly clunky! When I read about the game I thought I would wake up or spawn in a bustling city (or at least one with more people than I see now) and then you'd have to figure out how to get by on your own. But as it is now... I don't know. Not a fan of the top-down/diametric view. I like it in Diablo for instance, but in a game like this? I really expected it to be a First/Third person perspective.

It just feels... off. I don't know. I don't think I'll be playing this game after I'm done with the demo. It's... meh.

But anyways... can't repair the door and can't buy gasoline, so I guess I'll just die in-game?

Edit: I just accidentally trespassed in Goga's room and within literally three seconds he got angry with me, told me to leave, and when I wasn't fast enough, he attacked me and I died. That's not a good way to start a game, people. If you can't retain players past the first 15 minutes it's game over.

Same here - still trying to figure out how to do these 2 quests.

To repair the door you must equip an item with the "Screwing Tool" attribute. You can craft a makeshift knife to do this. With this drawn, move to the door and the prompt to repair will pop up. Once complete, talk to the quest giver to get $100. This will give you a total of $250, enough to buy access to the gasoline for 2 hours to fill up the gas can.

It took me a little bit of trial and error, then some logical deduction to figure this out, but got there in the end!

Agreed. I read some glowing reviews of this and was excited to try the demo but it's far too clunky. These are introductory quests and the game doesn't explain anything. The interface is not terribly intuitive and the iconography isn't great. I'll take a look much later as the game develops but this feel very much like early access.

As to your edit, the exact same thing happened to me. My first few minutes I was trying to figure out how to break down the door when Goga broke it down, said I was trespassing, and started attacking me. Then he threw me out of his property.

The interface IS clunky, hitting ESC should take you out of things and back to the main view, but not directly to the options screen, hitting it from the main view should do that.

I can't figure out how to make a knife - I found the workbench by Gogo's hut, but I guess I need to unlock more blueprints or something. I like the idea and the "feel" - I'll come back for another look when it's farther along.

The makeshift knife can be made from your own inventory crafting section and does not need a workbench to do so. It requires scrap metal & scrap wood which you can scavenge or break objects down for, e.g branches for scrap wood..

In that case, I need to figure out how to access my "own inventory crafting section".

Thanks for the hint - if I'm still stumped after a couple more days, I may come back and ask "where is it?"

Okay, I know I said "a couple more days", but I've hit every key on my keyboard and I cannot find any "inventory crafting section". Can someone tell me how to access it?

I was having the same issue, just figured it out - press tab to open your inventory and you'll see some tabs in the upper right that you can switch between using 1 and 2. The one with the paper and pencil is the crafting tab

Thanks! I guess I missed the "tab" key when I went across my keyboard.

Make a knife in self-inventory as listed in previous comments. use that knife to disassemble the wooden cart just outside the gate and use that wood to repair the door.
The cart doesn't give you the right type of wood in the picture when you try to repair the door it has and icon that says you need three pieces of wood that are long and skinny and two pieces of metal. what type of wood is this I can't seem to find it anywhere.? It looks kind of like the wooden handle but it's not

Just checked this on a new save - the shack door requires three wooden planks and several pieces of scrap metal. You can create wooden planks from wooden logs by using one of the workbenches scattered around the city (Goga has one in his own backyard). Wooden logs are harvested by chopping down trees with any axe!
