There is a rough rule of thumb though.
Teutons sell the heavier/better armor, big gunpowder-type guns and iirc mines apparently. And helicopter fighter things. And also the coal/explosive energy gen/drives.
Viridians sell the good rockets. Not sure what else they are good at tbh. They have Cruising Drives I guess. Oh, and pegasi.
Acrelians sell shields, Gryphons/Hawks, and tons of lasers.
You also really need to go to 3 towns to have the vast majority of the good stuff, assuming you've unlocked the commission stores in those towns. Greenvale Town for Teutons, Everspring Town for Acrelian and Firefort City for Viridian. And honorable mention for Everspring Fort late game for the top-tier Acrelian stuff.
Another tip is that you know under the Shipyard tab some areas allow you to set up a ship part manufacturer? Even without setting it up, you can click on it and it shows you a menu of what you can produce in it. So even early game you can go to Laventum Industrial Yard and then click on those manufacturers and it should give you a list of parts of most of the good stuff in game. By that I mean blues and up, it doesn't have greens and below, though it might have 1 or 2 greens. Funny thing though, clicking on the list on the left doesn't let you magnifying glass it, but when you click on them, they bring up a parts list on the right along with another icon of the item itself, that one can be magnifying glassed.
Basically you can use this as some kind of ghetto list of ship parts. And if you station a ship there permanently you can remote view the list and use the magnifying glass whenever.
Though you should keep any good item on your shopping list permanently regardless. Double for stuff that's rare. Especially green stuff which perhaps have more suitable slot sizes for you. Since blues and up can be found at Laventum IY.
Oh, and there is also 3 items that you can only get through production and only then after completing the officer quests.
Helmut for a 1x1 power gen that is also explosive. It's the best one though.
Jilani for a 4x3 power gen that isn't explosive. Not sure how it compares to the Helmut gen, but I prefer it because it doesn't go boom when it booms.
And Pierre for a 3x3 upgraded cruising drive that is both better than the buyable ones and also doesn't go boom when it gets blown up.
StreamingAssets\MerchantData
to understand what different merchants sell
and then look at StreamingAssets\ItemTable
to understand the different item types
Tho to be honest I kinda more or less remember where to buy at that point.
Remember the big cities,
Greenvale, Everspring, Firefort, and Laventum Industrial Yard.
After getting the item i want to, click the item then click the star button. It will shows as your shopping list at the quest menu.
