Nice Ships - NOW LET US FREAKING USE THEM
I'm sorry, but as much as I love this game WTF is with story-gating EVERYTHING????

I've been playing now for twenty hours TWENTY FREAKING HOURS, and most of that time is on the story, while doing some bounty hunting and cargo hauling in-between to make money, and ALL THE GAME IS LETTING ME BUY is this STUPID Victory Falcon.

I'M SICK OF THE VICTORY FALCON!!!

But in your infinite brilliance you've decided that NOTHING interesting can be purchased, arbitrarily gating EVER INTERESTING SHIP behind DOZENS AND DOZENS of story hours that are ALL FETCH QUESTS.

WHY?

How is this fun? I'm ready to freaking quit and change my review to negative!

EDIT: But oh don't worry, here's a 1,000,000 Eagle freighter in Everspring, because everyone is just dying to fly a slow as bricks freighter that cannot mount ANY of the game's most interesting and fun weapons! Did I mention it costs 1,000,000 Eagles?

Whoever thought this was a good or fun idea needs to seriously re-evaluate how they value the player's time, and what they think makes for interesting gameplay.

EDIT 2: It's a bug. All the apologists below, were defending a LITERAL GLITCH. The large majority of the game's ships and weapons CANNOT be purchased due to a glitch.

Congrats, fanboys, you were defending a glitch.

Seems the Devs messed up at Launch and locked a whole bunch of stuff behind a Quest thats not actually in the Game yet.
Thus effectively Faceblocking the Players from Progressing the Shipyards.

I am surprised that you are still using the Voctroy Falcon. The Viridian Courser seems so much better.

But yea, I fully agree. This is not a sandbox game and sadly not a management game where we can hire npcs to transport.

Laventum industrial yard has 9 ships for sale incl. the 78'924 Viridian Courser

You realize the base speed isn't actually indicative of how fast it'll actually go? The Obsidian Lindwyrm has a "base speed" of 43 km/h yet I got it up to 61km/h, 50% higher than the listed speed. I haven't played with the million dollar ship yet, but somehow I doubt many people have and most people seem to not really understand how much customization actually impacts the game and aren't putting real thought into it..
Passan 2023 年 9 月 23 日 下午 2:27
There we go, now we finally get the apologizers who take an issue with every opinion against the game.
What a terrible argument. Do you inironically enjoy playing a snail?
From 43 to 61. what a stunning archievment. And it is still trash for a game where the majority of content is decided by its speed and gets overshadowed by the base speed of the Calista.

I mean, the criticism that all the quests are essentially go get generic_quest_item_45 over and over again after allot of travel and either fighting everything or avoiding it is pretty fair. I looked forward to messing with the bigger and better ships, their obviously in the game, you can fight them, and look at all their data in the files, yet theirs a pretty big gap between the T3 ships you can buy, and a single T5 is what I'd guess that freighter is in cost. With none of the other ships available. and you seemingly can't capture them either, granted captures are rare, so it may be that I just havent gotten lucky enough when i've managed to get one of the bigger ships to surrender.

I get that many people who play this genre "like" the slow calm travel, where I'd reckon some of the complaints in here are more in line with what I want from the game, and thats to mess around with ship design, and for whatever reason were arbitrarily blocked from the better ships. Also tbh, could care less about the travel, literaly went and modified the items in the files so I could travel at a reasonable rate.

Ummm....I got my Bronze Drake after about six hours....and I wasn't even trying. I swapped my Victory into Escort, and have been Frigating ever since. Are you visiting major cities, and NOT just cargo locations? I do notice that a lot of NON hub locations will just sell victorys and the gunboats. But major trade centers seem to sell more ships.
War Craze 2023 年 9 月 23 日 下午 3:17
Dude, fly around a little and find them? I bought a Veridian Courser frigate down in Firefort.

I think there is valid criticism in the quests. There are kill-person quests but the game is just fetch/deliver quests and kill quests. Sailing Era did better in terms of range of things you could do.

I have no issue with this criticism, that's why I didn't address it a single time. I have an issue with the "this expensive ship is too slow" because they're looking at the base stat on the buy screen. With as much room it has for large engines, I'd imagine you can get it up to fairly high speeds. I haven't acquired it yet so I can't verify it, but considering I can push the starter ship up 50% despite having barely any room for engines... that was my point.

A lot of the criticisms towards this game is coming from people who either don't understand that they can (or how to) customize their ship or are unwilling to put in that effort. They just want to buy ships as-is and expect the game to roll-over because they bought shiny, expensive ship. It's fundamentally a game built around customizing ships and you can push every ship very far with good customization. That's something OP clearly is missing.

Notice also how I didn't criticize the "there's not enough ship variety" point? Because I agree. I'd like to see at least 2x more ship types.

As for the travel thing, I genuinely don't see it as a problem. You can get around the map quickly. To go half way across the map takes about 10 minutes. That's not that long compared to any other large, open-world game. The issue isn't that travel is slow, it's that people are either
A. want more to do in-between those long journeys (valid)
B. trying to make these longer journeys too early and are getting mad that the game doesn't let them do everything immediately (not valid)
C. not understanding the genre and trying to do the big thing, and only the big thing, immediately and thinking doing one task at a time is the correct way to play this genre

In another thread, someone is complaining that going halfway across the map is taking them 20 minutes when I can do the EXACT same journey in 10. Which goes back to my earlier points; people are ignoring one of the core features of the game, or are just incapable of using it correctly, and are getting mad at the game when they should be mad at themselves. And going into C, this genre isn't meant to be played like Skyrim or Elden Ring. You're not doing one task and focused on just one task. You should be multitasking and maximizing your time and resources. It's a management sim in this sense. The East India Company didn't become massive and successful by sending one fleet to make a singular trade on the other side of the world. They carried large amounts of goods to make multiple trades and made trades all along the route. People are having a fundamental misunderstanding.

Which, this game desperately needs a quest journal to help with the above as well as fixing the overall economy of the world, because trading small goods is pointless and unprofitable. But no one is making these points, they're complaining about fundamental game mechanics that they aren't taking the time to understand. And the above two posters kind of prove that - they, just like me, found the ships. OP is just not engaging with the actual game or genre, he just wants everything NOW and to be handed to him on a silver platter NOW.

It's crazy how I can criticize one bad point someone said and not disagree with the entire thing....

The Bronze Drake is a cargo ship.

The Iron Drake (the iron-clad looking frigate) is not available to purchase until much later in the story, UNLESS you want to fly around for hours upon hours gathering materials to manually build one yourself.

The Viridian Courser that everyone keeps talking about is the same class/category of ship as the Victory Falcon, but trades firepower for speed - meaning they are essentially side-grades.

Viridian Courser - less guns, more speed
Victory Falcon - more guns, less speed

Hence why they are available at the same point in the game.

Well aware, and like half of those are escort vessels. Two are the Victory Falcon and Viridian Courser, and the remainder are freighters.

But don't worry, there's a 1,000,000 Eagle freighter in Everspring.

BIG. FREAKING. DEAL.

You're way too worked up over the titles of the ships rather than the ships themselves. Would it be nice if more ships were more readily available earlier? Yes. Is the bronze drake or the other ships bad because they don't have as much weapons ports? No, the game is pretty easy.

Ah I see, ya tbh, big ship mean slow and lumbering, don't like it, use smaller ships. I do think they need to clean up the UI a bit, and maybe not lock the ability to swap ships behind so much boring content. Its not totaly unreasonable what they have, but the option to change ships more easily would be nice.

Also to your point about the ships, ya I'm just gripey about it, not sure why their so limited in what we can "aquire", its just a bit goofey to have 3 fleshed out factions and have such a limited range of choices of what you can use in the mid-late game.

"as a side note to all the goofballs that keep saying get xyz ship, its easy", your missing the point, theirs a massive list of ships in the game files, even without going that far, even going 10h into the game you can see all 3 factions have a wide range of ships, your access to these ships peters off at the T3 level, falcon/courser stage, and all the other interesting ships past that are locked behind an unkown wall(maybe its stroyline, but I'm doubtfull), as theirs only one actual shipwright that I've been able to find. Again maybe that changes in the late stages of the storyline, someone else would need to confirm that.

Well, I've stomped just about everything I've run into with that Viridian Courser, except that coil-cult cruiser I've been avoiding. You know you can add on more weapons than it starts with right?

Yes, I do, this isnt an issue of are the current ships good enough, its a question of why have all those other ships but limited us to the midrange ones. I also enjoy making and designing ships allot more then I do any of the other content, so I looked forward to messing the 300-600 slot ships, to find out that their was only two freighter options in that category. None of the cool warships.

How on earth do you still have the victory falcon 20 hours in doing the main story? You should have EASILY gotten enough to afford the Stone Drake...lmao, are you not exploring ports and buying ships? You could even buy the Brass Drake and the Iron Drake before.

Why do people think they cant fly other ships? im 25 hours in and my fleet is Stone Drake with two iron drakes...try sailing around more. Stone is 200k Eagles. Iron is like 75k and the brass is like 5k.

Yeah, I'd like to see more ships unlocked from the start and what not. I think it's fair to say that this is effectively EA without the label. I can't blame small devs for wanting to avoid the label because EA has a whole bag of stigma behind it now, but this isn't the solution either.
