That plus a couple of escorts handled the treasure ship without any significant damage taken.
on my previous playthrough I tried the Iron Drake, and I just got my butt kicked. Is the weapons setup/positioning for the victory good?
What they did badly is that ALL factions are enemies and ALL ships from the faction is stronger.
The devs do not want the player to fight enemies.
Oh yea, the keys are speed and range.
I think a major consideration is that you should, at that point in the game, be shielding your ship. Shields have a major impact on that fight.
cant even dent the treasure ship while they totally shred me in just a couple of volleys.
do i need to buy a different ship? what kind of weapons should i use against shielded enemies?
You'll either want two decent escorts, a frigate, or both. I strongly recommend shielding at least your primary ship.
Personally I beat my head against it for a bit, then flew down to Everspring and picked up two Victory frigates. Outfitted them with shields and heavy weapons. Emptied my funds, but the fight was cake after that.
