Luxor won't play (Windows 8)

I'm running Windows 8. When I start Luxor, I see the title screen. When I click on play, the game closes out. I tried to run this in a compatibility mode for Windows XP but then I get a "missing steam.dll" error.

Running windows 8 here not a problem with running it.

Anyone found any solutions - only one of my Luxor games work with Windows 8.1. I have the latest drivers, etc...hit the play button and nothing happens.

I have windows 7 and I too cannot play this game. Have the same problem, click on play and the game closes out.

I've found that it's running on 8.1, if you look at task manager, but it doesn't show up. More worked on 8 than 8.1. I can get most to run on 7.

Same here. I also have the original download from MumboJumbo (as distributed by Arcadetown) and it has similar problems - it gets to the initial game loading screen, but either freezes on the "loading" bar or finishes the bar but doesn't respond to mouse clicks to continue to the menu screen. Tried XP compatibility mode, etc. but no luck.

i thought i bought the game from my youth but if i cant play it than it's a shame, still the same problem. click on play and the game wont open.

My testing so far:
Windows 8.1: crash
Windows 7: crash
Windows XP in virtualbox: BSOD
Wine in Ubuntu: crash
Developer actions: None

My recommendation for the game currently: AVOID IT!

Has this issue been fixed? I bought luxor today and about 3 of the luxor games wont run. rest did work. i also have windows 8. it gives the error that steam.dll is missing when i run as admin. to fix that i downloaded steam.dll file and pasted it in the folder and it still wont work. any help would be much appreciated. thanks.

this is not cool i have the same problem with luxor and a few other games from popcap collection and I tried on 2 computers with windows 8.1 im not downgrading my windows to play the game looks like no one is going to fix maybe i should get a refund since develpopers cant fix it
