Lots of lagging

I don't remember exactly when it started but my game has been lagging a lot lately, both in the game-play and the menu. The sound doesn't match with the images on screen, it's really slow at times and even freezes at times. Does anyone have anything similar? I don't really know what to do about it. I just want to play

I just started experiencing extreme lag as well. had had an occasional frame drop before, but this is basically unplayable :(
Every time leave the game window and come back in the frame rate is back to normal, but only for like 30 second, then it get progressively worse to a point of not being able to move or do anything...
For me it started after unlocking a new large area today Down Stream Cloud Valley
I'm going to restart my computer and see if it changes anything, I'm on Mac btw. I have every single other program closed in the background, so it's literally just steam and the game running...

i also experience a lot of lagging lately… i'm on mac and everything was fine until i discovered the new location. stepping into cloud valley made the game so slow. after restarting the rest of the game is working. but not in cloud valley. the closer i get to the glowing witches border the worse it gets. i love to play it but now its impossible to get further

I have the same issue. It started after an update i think and got way worse when I discovered the new area. I hope there is a fix for it because I can't play the game! I'm playing on mac, no issue with other games, Stardew valley for example. Restarting my laptop does not resolve the issue.
