Can't Figure Out Potions :( Please Help!

I'm having issues figuring out potion-making at all....

When I look up videos for help, my screen doesn't look like the other screens I'm seeing. When I push 'Z' to interact with my pot, I don't have a screen to add ingredients at all, it doesn't pop up my inventory, nothing really. It shows me all of the steps for the potion (the weed-eating potion) but I can't do anything. I can hit the space bar and it does *something* to the fire, but I can't even tell what level the fire is at in order to know if I've done it correctly. I have not been able to do anything every time I've tried, and the potion only fails.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or if I'm just doing something silly.
If anyone can understand what I'm trying to say and maybe walk me through this, that would be incredible! Thank you for your time!

Is it an old system vs new system ? It changed with the new uptade...
So when you interact with your pot, it shows you a list of potions/candies, did I get that right ?
You can get a look of the reciepe but can't craft it ? You need to have the ingredients on you, if it's in a chest it won't work.
Next issue is the minigames in on itself. You have the fire one : You need to control how hot it is, you get 'problems' sometimes and need to ajust how you deal with your fire to keep it the right temperture. Can be tricky but it's logical, you should succeed after a bit of learning. Then you have the turning the spoon in the pot one: you turn it one way (depending on the reciepe) and sometimes your spoon gets stuck, you need to vigorously shake your spoon to unstuck it.

Thank you so much for your time and help!!! It really was just tricky to figure out :'S

The initial fire minigame is what was throwing me off. I thought I had to only hit the space bar one time at level 4; not sure why it took me so long to figure it out but telling me to control how hot it is really helped! Kind-of felt like a "duh" moment.
