It's far from done of course, but it intends to be a faithful successor which builds upon the Sea Dogs/Age of Pirate series that has come before it (it has a very long and confusing history, hence all the different names for the series titles).
POTC 2003 should have been named "Sea Dogs 2: Tales of a Sea Hawk", but Disney bought the rights to the game in order to simply rename it and promote their movie, which is why it had hardly anything to do with POTC in terms of story, lol.
But the series has been long going with a cult following (roughly about 5-6 games were made in total). This game is intended to be a modern spiritual successor.
Despite a few spots where animations seem fluid it seems like most of the character movement seems really stiff, especially in the fights. The ship shown sailing in the video looks pretty basic and the water didn't look great. The sails seemed static, no wind movement, and the flag's movement from the wind was very limited. The textures on the ship and in the tavern look very basic and generally quite bland, and I'm not impressed with the lighting, either. Character models seem okay, but nothing special there, either.
I know, I know. It's in EA but given what I've seen this isn't even remotely ready for today's gaming market. Maybe in a few years?
Ah thanks! I did not know that. I actually loved the Pirates of the Carribean game as a kid. I still play it from time to time. I wonder what new stuff this successor will bring to the table.
