I'm fairly new to the game as well, but have been using YouTube to research. The most effective thing if you are starting over is to ensure you have some good blueprints.

I use conveyors

blueprints saved out and then deciding how to place your factories together takes alot of iteration.

I've never even come close to running out of resources in any form unless you're just madly overproducing

I'm having trouble understanding steam generators.
I am using a blueprint made by Calen. I've built a starter steam generator that goes in order:

Steam turbine - steam turbine - power

If you place a blueprint without having all the techs for it (maybe you have not the Belts) aktuell the belts compleate removed if you place the blueprint and "to high-tier-buildings" will be
downgraded.
