Need tip: burn only excess of Nitrogen from the storage tank?
So I've got this tank for Nitrogen but I don't need too much at the moment and it keeps filling up to the point that it blocks the output on the Air Separator building.

Is there a way to only burn anything exceeding the storage max capacity? I
tried connecting it to a chimney but it drains everything from the tank and emptying it. It does the same even if I set the storage to "keep % full".
I tried with a balancer but nothing was redirected to the chimney.

What am I doing wrong / any tip of a layout?
Thanks!

I got the opposite problem, I need more nitrogen for fertilizer and I'm not using all the oxygen. So in your case : Nitrogen output into balancer; balancer into tank and into smokestack

Click on balancer then on the priority box(es) to set which in- or output(s) will have priority.

Now that I#m looking at it again, it might actually a be a good idea to set this up for both outputs to futureproof it.

Hey that's working perfectly! I had tried with a balancer but my mistake was to put it after the storage instead of before, thanks!

why not make more storage since you sure to have use of it later when the tech will be unlocked

Cause it doesnt make sense to waste any material, time and space to store air.

Exactly what I did. Thanks Nellvan for the tip.

later you will store large amount of N2 and it will not a waste

naah I'm with Nellvan here, I don't see the point in having 20 storages of Nitrogen in order to use it later, you can mass produce it easily with the Air Separator building

I also agree there is no real point storing nitrogen. It's very easy and cheap to get in large quantities, and you can also just vent it back into the air without causing pollution. No need to store it.

On a related note, anyone up for doing the math on how far you can truck N2 or O2 before it's more efficient to just build another air seperator ? Not being entirely serious here, but I'm starting to get the feeling that export tank isn't that great of idea either.

yes a math windows will be helpfull isntead as ever rellying on unoffical guides and spreedsheets
some ven more complex game let the player in the total unknow i guess it part of the chalenge but for some like me whoo are poor at math this impossible to play without begging help in forum and if ever i had no internet i will be blocked

Honestly? Not going to do the math on this. :)
I slap one down wherever I need them. They're easily built to be completely autonomous, so my trucks can handle more important tasks.
The only case where I don't just slap one down locally is if I can run a pipeline to another source of nitrogen close by that is sufficient for the task.

I think you need a balancer BEFORE storage. Priorize output to storage, vent/burn other output.

Exactly what Nellvan's post said. Please read entire post befor commenting.

I didn't need to store the nitrogen myself. When I first built my air separators for steel production I vented off the nitrogen with smoke stacks (didn't seem to cause any negative effects) After I got the chemical plant and had to make liquid nitrogen, I removed the stacks, plugged all 3 separators into the chemical plant with it's own pipe. Then I connected a pipe off the side of each line that goes into a shared small smokestack for the 3 lines to vent off the excess. It's worked like a charm since. No balancer needed.

if I need the extra nitrogen later on for something else I can always remove the stack, put in a storage tank and do what I need after
