New game now or wait for Update 3?

I'm waiting for update 3 to start a new game, but the wait is killing me. If I start a new game now will I encounter problems or limitations with the existing save when Update 3 is related in the future?

Devs have said old save files should load.

Just leave space for train tracks and crossings.

I started a new play through. When 3 launches i will park it and start again. Then go back to the old save.

I’d recommend you wait - there will be balancing and recipes changes, at least one bigger map especially for trains as well. Also, I’m not quite sure how the new materials will be integrated into the world if old saves (and exploration maps) remain compatible.

Just an idea but maybe you can get into another factory game in the meantime. Say, Techtonica or one of the mods for OG Factorio you haven’t played. I liked Industrial Revolution 2 (now 3) much more than the base game. Foundry (voxel-based Satisfactory) is also getting bigger with each update.

Plan B: Terraform is awesome but also going 1.0 soon.

Have they talked about what kind of rail network we are getting? I'm just wondering if we will get a level system for the trains. Like small little trains at first then we can upgrade them to bigger ones. Im at a point in my save where im having to set up gas station for my trucks because they are driving across the map. Im also saving up mats to build a mega belt to help reduce the travel time.
