Report a translation problem
In the very bottom left is a 'Layers' button. In that view you will get a dipstick that shows the content of the soil. Each bar is a layer. If the iron color is below a brown or gray that is how many layers down it is.
You can mine flat if you have the ore above ground.
Also pulling up any particular chunk can and often has other things mixed into it.
I didn't even notice the colored layers on the markers. Thanks ~
And yes, stripping off overburden is part of the experience.
My gameplay is to take the Island down to bedrock then bring it back up using rock to +1 elevation, over that I place 1 meter of dirt so my finished level is +2 above sea level. Dirt is simply piled early on so I can use it later, excess rock is sent to the ocean to further expand my level surface.
