pumps for drainage?
If you'rte mining near the sea, and below sea level, sometimes it happens that over-zealous mining can cause the mine to flood. Currently, the only solution to that is to fill the mine to level +01 and then dig it out again which can be wasteful.

What would be nice is if we could repair the party that let in the water ( by dumping to make a dy.ke) and then place seawater pumps connected to an outlet on the outside and pump out the water. This would rely on water which is fully enclosed by land being treated as a separate body of water from the surrounding sea. Is that a thing that can be done, I wonder?

yes

Has been talked about for years. I'd like it as well, just don't know how much effort it would be.

This sounds like it would empty the lakes I've built making them useless so seems like a bad idea to me.
Personally I'm happy just being careful where I dig.

Those lakes are neat, but technically unrealistic. I'm always of two minds about them.

Same, but being able to drain enclosed lakes would still be neat.

and the best part is if you dont want to use them you dont have to

it's a definite realism thing. There are very big pumps in the world whose sole purpose is to maintain a lack of water below sea level where that is needed.

It'd only drain your lakes if you put the pump there and connected it to the ocean with an outlet.

I don't think the game accounts for volume. Once water is there the only answer is to seal it off and fill.
Would be awesome to have though.

They're actually not unrealistic. :) You have to dig a trench to the ocean to fill them, so the way I look at it is that you could bury huge pipes to connect it to the ocean before you fill i the trench.

If I was designing something like that IRL, I'd have an intake pond with pipes connected to the upstream/windward side of the island, and an outlet pond with pipes going to the downstream/lee side of the island. My current map has 6 inland ponds for pumps/dumps for water production. Otherwise I'd have 192 seawater pumps and 72 liquid dumps competing for shoreline with cargo docks (and water is used everywhere, so it's more convenient to make it in the middle of the island than along one edge). :)

Oh, I wouldn't mind them with a trench or a pipe like that. But a simple lake with no supply is unrealistic. Very convenient, true. That's why I say two minds. x)
