Ore sorter
Its kinda garbage... one slot gets fulled so it doesnt cycle and sort the other 3 slots... making it really useless

your supposed to empty it or make it feed storage.
exactly you have to manage it. I have one for example which is doing coal, iron ore, dirt and stone. it feeds 4 bins, and the dirt and stone are set to empty (and get dumped) at about 80% full so they don't stop the coal/iron ore from processing. if the coal or iron ore get full that's more tricky but they get used quite steadily. I foresee a possibility that iron ore could stall coal in future, in which case I'll separate that off to another sorter. I also didn't place it well, it needs to be near to the mines. So I'll need to move it anyway.
I have noticed the loose products big Haul Trucks can't dump into a sorter basically making the haul trucks useless. Anyone else have this issue?

Ore sorting is a bit "half-baked" at the moment. Use at your own risk. I suspect that the future will hold some QoL improvements for ore sorting.

The ISSUE you are running into is that haul trucks are almost "too big" for the ore sorter.

My haul trucks are 234 units in size (due to unity enhancements) and the ore sorter input can only hold 360 units, and it can also only process 360 units/month. This means that ONLY one haul truck can dump into the sorter, AND a second truck cannot dump until at least 234 units are available - so it will go park at the mine control tower and wait -which may seem like the trucks are not dumping.

The answer is to have MULTIPLE ore sorters, but due to the small size of the ore sorter input, the sorter will still be inefficient because the size of the haul truck is so similar to the input size of the sorter.

You might need an ore sorter for every 2-3 haul trucks, depending upon haul distance and truck turnaround. Sorter throughput will also be affected by the distance between mine control tower and the sorters, because anytime you can't dump, your truck will detour to the mine control tower. Finally make sure that "accept assigned only" is checked on all ore sorters if you do not want to accidentally match a sorter on the other side of the map ... leading to a large detour for the truck.

The ore sorter could definitely use an upgraded version for the late game similar to other machinery - or possibly some mechanism to feed multiple ore sorters from a single input. Haul trucks really need a tier 3 or 4 loose storage to dump efficiently, 360 units just doesn't cut it.

If you have a large scale terraforming operation in the late game (30-40 haul trucks), you may wish to avoid sorting completely and just dump what you dig up because you will need a lot of ore sorters ... at least at the moment.
I have one sorter for each of my mines. Iron, dirt and rock go in. Iron get belted to iron smelter array, rock and dirt get belted into storage with keep emtpy on. Works like a charm

well , one solution they can do is do industrial ore sorter , feature is good and it genuene improvement as in past truck would go all around trying to dump 2 , 3 or sometimes 4 things it got , now it can dump it all in 1 place , who is sorted and then moved

who saves like atleast 4 to 16 trips with disalowed allow partial loaded trucks , who is god sent on new super big map as even big inefficies can turn into "losing lots fuel"

Thanks for the details. I will have to check to see how much my haul trucks are carrying. They refused to dump into a totally new/empty sorter. Possible my haul trucks were hauling to much for a single dump. I was cheating and may have had the capacity increased to 200% which allows them to haul around 500 units or such. Which as you say, Is to much for a sorter to handle. Could easily be why they wouldn't dump. Will check it out.

Yah, I do the same. My haul trucks I think were set to 200% capacity and may have been hauling more than the empty sorter could deal with so, trucks refused to dump. I have to test that to see if that was the issue.

I am still testing but I think I will be disabling and going back to the old ways.

Would be nice if you could enable/disable by Mine control tower. Rather than a global setting.

PS the rest of U2 is amazing.

Confirmed. Truck even with capacity set to 100% can haul 540 units. Sorter can only accept 360 units. Which makes sorters useless for haul trucks and defeats the game if enabled. Yup, Time to turn off sorters. Darn, It was a good idea. Just not fully tested by the developers. They need to allow a partial dump into a sorter.

Adding a 2nd sorter does not resolve the issue ether.

Yeah, I mentioned that "The ore sorter could definitely use an upgraded version" in my post.

On further thought, a better solution might be to "allow" mixed loose storage containers, instead of setting loose storage to a particular product, a loose storage container could just be set to "MIXED". Basically this would allow for existing loose storage (up to 4000+ units) to be used to store mixed products AND since those storages already have 4 output belts AND belts ALREADY allow for mixed products - the existing belt sorters could then be used.

Since the belt sorters seem to sort at "belt" speed, tier 3 belts could sort up to 450 units/sec -- AND with 4 belts coming out of the largest storage this means the possibility of sorting up 1800 units/sec from a single storage.

You would still need the existing ore sorter in the early game before storages and belt sorters are researched, but would be a nice way to get better organization (single dumping spot, multiple sorters) and ore sorting throughput in the late game.
I am disabling. Nice idea but the throughput is sub optimal.

Like I said, ore sorting is bit "half-baked" at the moment. That said, update 2 is a first version of ore sorting and hopefully feedback will make it better in the future. And the rest of Update 2 is amazing.

I too will NOT be enabling ore sorting for my current game. Adding 30-40 ore sorters is way to much of a bottleneck in both throughput and space.
Let's hope they patch it and just triple the numbers on sorters then.
It works. Early game you start with one sorting plant (requires manual clearing from time to time), later you want a sorting plant for each main ore. So iron + dirt, rock; copper + dirt, rock and so on. Rock and dirt are dumped, the main product never gets blocked unless you have to much main product.
