Compare to Factorio or Satisfactory
What I can see is that this game is the 3D version of Factorio or the 3rd person view of Satisfactory. So besides graphic quality and camera angle, what are the pros and cons of this game if compared to Factorio or Satisfactory?

COI is more RTS as you control a fleet of vehicles. Satisfactory is FPS and Factorio is Top down isometic. I'm sure you know they are all about automation.

Hope this gives a better idea

Factorio is top down 2D with a building system and world generation method that allows for massive factories on what is basically an infinite map. The game transitions from the player crafting and placing everything to a game where the player is directing bots to place buildings that are built from other factories. Factorio has many, many mods to add more replay options. Factorio's main downside is that after launching a rocket there are no base game goals to pursue. Factorio can also be repetitive end game once all the technology is unlocked as the player and they are copy/pasting outposts and current production chains.

Satisfactory is a first person 3D game where the player is industrializing a fixed map. The verticality and first person elements really drive the game for most people. As the game is still not released, the overall story and motivation to unlock the space elevator is unknown. Satisfactory's main downsides is that the game becomes a bit unmanagable end game as the player still has to place everything and there is only 1 map that can be maxed out, so replayablity may suffer. The building issue may be semi-resolved with blue prints.

Captain of Industry is a top down 3D game that has much more depth in production chains than Factorio or Satisfactory. It goes deep where Factorio goes wide. Captain of Industry looks better than Factorio in general, though has a more realistic art style while some may prefer Factorio's art style. Captain of Industry is also not fully released, so end game goals are still fluid. The player directs a fleet of vehicles (bots from Factorio) to build everything and can't directly build or craft anything from raw resources. Captain of Industry's main downsides are the player can death spiral much more easily than the other two games, there a limited number of fixed maps and getting to infinite resources requires the player to have extreme knowledge of the game. Captain of Industry is definitely the the hardest of the 3 games.

TL:DR
Factorio
- Top down 2D
- A lot of replayability due to map generation and mods
- Massive scale
- Can get repetitive when scaling up in end game once technology is all unlocked

Satisfactory
- First person 3D
- 3D building in a very good looking environment
- 1 map, with finite resources, so the player is capped at some point and replayability suffers
- Still early access

Captain of Industry
- Top down 3D
- 3D building with deep and complex production chains; can death spiral if not careful
- Limited number of maps with finite resources
- Still early access

Thank you BossmanSlim for the analysis.
To add: there are already 6? wildly differend maps in Captain of Industry and later in 2023 a map creator wil come out.
With the use of boats you can get infinite resources form the world map (with correct settings).
You can still dead spiral but this is less common with new recepies and easier trading.

If it's not too late to weigh in...

Short version: I'd say it's more like Oxygen Not Included than Satisfactory or Factorio. Reasons below:

This biggest difference from the automation side from CoI to factorio/satisfactory is the idea of byproducts. *Every* machine makes by products that have to be handled. At first it's just exhaust, but later it's like "sour water from oil refining" or "sulfer from the sour water stripper." As you get more efficent, there's a ton of byproducts to handle, and as you find uses for them, different parts of your factory become more interdependent. My first game, I kept having diesel run out when I wasn't putting enough fertilizer on the crops or mining enough limestone. Some of those spirals can be quite unforgiving.

Less important...I would classify CoI more as a city-builder than a RTS. Yeah, there's trucks zipping around, but you pay far more attention to keeping the city fed and power running than the trucks. Also, no mobs. So that's different from factorio or satisfactory.

Wow. If the game take into account efficiency and byproducts when producing a certain product, then it does add significant depth into the game. Sounds very interesting.

But is it too early to buy now ?
Is content variation enough to keep players occupied for tens of hours, just like Factorio and Satisfactory?
Or should we wait until developers add more content & more production chain into the game?

Well, I've got 516 hours in and just happily started a brand new game. If that's not getting my money's worth, I don't know what is..

1) No, the game has tons of replayability
2) Yes, I have 70 hours in the game and have never really progressed into the last 25% of the research tree.
3) It is well worth the getting in now if you like this type of game. I bought into Factorio fairly early and even with all the changes the devs made, it was still good value then and is good value now.

just buy all three, all are good games and different in their own right

Don't forget Dyson Sphere Program :-) I now play all four. I have 2 hours so far on COI and so far I like what I see.
