(EDIT: I think maybe the name is Automation Empire.)
I am looking for 'games like Captain of Industry' as well that are 2D (ish).
I will look into factory town, any other suggestions?
yeah, its on my wish list and I have tried it, I cant get passed the dark themed graphics but it is a good suggestion for sure.
which is ironic for me because I do enjoy Song of syx which is dark themed graphics as well
Satisfactory is also great, but I'm waiting to start another save at this point, because my play time is so limited that they're changing things that mess with saves faster than I can play through them.
Factory Town is a bit more cartoon-y, but also has a population to support.
Automation Empire has a bit more of a puzzle game feel to it due to some of the limitations on building.
Little Big Workshop is starting to step outside of the genre a bit, but was still a lot of fun.
In no particular order, Autonauts, OpenTTD, Shapez, Mini {Metro,Motorways}, Opus Magnum might scratch the itch.
check out how saturated/bright the original images were of the game

Also they set a $20k goal for a game that grossed somewhere between $225-350M and is in the top 5 rated games, in all of Steam. Wild.
Seriously. If you enjoy these types of games...
You can do things yourself to increase the brightness of the game if that's all holding you back. Brightness & contrast of your monitor, it may have a different mode you can use just for these games. Color & Brightness in your video cards settings. Turn on windows HD color mode and crank that dial to 11. One of those should help. Beyond that. There's mods, i'm playing one right now that makes the world or ground different colors.
There's also a discord for the game that will get you sorted, I suggest heading there if you do the sub-2 hour test and voicing any concerns, to get a faster response.

post kickstarter. Now look at the game, lol:

I did, twice I think.
Also, I've heard numerous fairly "big" YouTubers say that YouTube makes games look darker than they actually are. That has implications for shadowy barey-visible entities in some games, such as the Reaper Leviathans in Subnautica.
However, Factorio has plenty of cheap in-game options to make things brighter during the short night cycle, even building Lamps. Or if you want light from day one then use a Torches mod, such as the one made by Factorio dev Klonan.
So give it a try, despite how "dark" it looks on YouTube.
Actual space infrastructure... Floating stations around gas giants count, I guess? And of course the titular dyson sphere that you end up building.
no, think of the colors in Graveyard Keeper.
Then think of the colors in Song of Syx
that is what I mean, however, I have a lot of contradiction. For example, I think First Fudeal and Song of Syx are awesome games and yet they have the same dark theme as Factoriol
so I dont know, but the bottom line is, I tried the game twice, it didnt speak to me unfortuntaly for whatever reason. Its like NOT the reason I am giving though
