finite resources latest update
Is it me or we traded one finite resource for another? Wood can be regrown now, which is cool. But bricks require dirt, which is surprise surprise... finite. If we play long enough, we'll have to strip all of top soil just to produce bricks?

Bricks are a temporary stop gap before you get concrete blocks, which are much more resource efficient using slag and rock. Also I believe the rock mine on the world map is still infinite, so no issue.

Plus limestone is available as a late game contract when you eventually run out of it in the island, so also infinitely available.

ooooh, you're right. I've just noticed the concrete construction parts recipe... never mind, i'm dumb

I like having a Bricks production as a backup, in case my Concrete fails. Concrete is a complex production chain, so lots of things can go wrong. For that reason, it's nice to have Brick as a backup until I realize the Concrete problem and fix it.

In addition to keeping a brickworks in stock, i use the recycling edicts... so the transition is a bit of a supply shock to my slag, and sometimes i forget to turn my concrete plants from slag based to gravel based

Dirt isn't finite.

Dirt can be made from mixing compost with gravel. In a mixing machine.

Unending rock is available on the the quarry island. You can trade sulfur for sludge which turns into compost and methane.

You also get compost from almost any product going through an anaerobic digester.

And you can dump compost straight to get 1:1 dirt. Mixing it with gravel gives you double the dirt to your compost input.
