You can make it from wood wich you can get in large amounts from sawmills too if you recall.
I mean you can get coal from trade, but not in the same rate. Oil runs out even faster than coal. And yes you can trade, but it the game is resource hungry the higher the tech you are in
this game can played endless on all settings low or high if you understand it
Sry for my bad english. I try to say, if you play normal you have mass of ressources and options. so ores can be finite. before you start a game, check the settings.
I agree. Overall Coal is way to decisive for energy production.

The world mines help, but only kicks the goalposts down the road. You need to start producing energy from oil / gas and Nuclear as it becomes available.
