So to put it simple: You need to build structures that use the stuff that comes from the abandoned communication station.
https://wiki.captain-of-industry.com/
you are the BOSS of the game
first step you say ...we start recycle the communiation station
now the worker and truckdriver wisper ..hey we have an new boss on ouer isel ..he is cool boss he say we need recyle the station ..but he dont say where we need transport it or where we storage the items.... ok let us smoke one and trink one beer or more till he give us another thing to to..
ok back to the game now ...
if you wish fun in this game ..go slow forward...read the windows what pop up and i am sure you have fun with this game
Materials usually get to stay where they are until there is a specific need for them, e.g. in a Blast Furnace or in an Assembly Building.
The game probably is a bit hard to learn in "raw" form. I learned it by watching an unbelieavable amount of hours of YouTube LP footage of version 0.31, so I can't be sure what the best approach to learning from scratch actually is.
Maybe assume less and just play more? Do stuff? Then do different stuff? Eventually things will begin to actually happen.

JD on youtube covers this game extensively, he also does tutorials about all the aspects of it.
You are not too stupid, the game doesn't lead you by the hand along the way, it seems to assume you know what the various resources are and can be turned into with only some vague tutorial popups. BUT, you can still have alot of fun working it out.
Just a few tips
You have a blueprint button, that when pressed you can put something down and it wont actually build, that way you can lay things out, spend time ligning up pipes or whatever and get it just the way you like.
You could also make a large system and copy the whole thing and plop it somewhere else in BLueprint mode and then just copy back again later if you want another system exactly the same. Only proviso on that tho is if whatever you copy has to sit on a specific resource like water for example, where you plop it interim also has to be on water.
Use the copy and paste, cut functions OFTEN lol.
