it's worth it to me, is it worth it to you - who knows.
I love Factorio and have over 2500 hours in that.
I quit playing Satisfactory and Dyson Sphere Program.
Edit: I quit playing Satisfactory for now because the modding community there is extremely Toxic. If you don't use Discord you will be ignored and the mod forum has not seen a post in months. It was disabled for quite awhile.
Dyson Sphere is nice, but I don't like the spherical maps. I thing the Earth is flat and sitting on top of turtles. (There are turtles all the way down.)
I may play Satisfactory later, when things settle down a bit.
This game is better than these two.
you didn't say if you liked those games jamiechi mentioned either.
Get the game, try it for up to 2 hours. If you don't like it get a refund through steam no questions asked.

Edit: And as for other similar games, the ships and pirates remind me of the Anno games. In Anno you start in a ship, select your landing zone and place your initial dock and settlers.
I wish this game had those options. (See my comment on Suggestion forum in subject "Move starting dock".)
Evospace is also a great factory builder game.
You're provided with ways to prevent this, such as customizable alerts for critical storage levels. While I'm sure some things will eventually be made more forgiving by default, thinking ahead is critically important in this game.
In many ways, this game is a lot more realistic than other factory games.
I really like it.
"though as you progress in research, what was ideal can't remain."
also game demand from you to make storages and set alerts on all core parts of your industry, as recovering from death spirals is tricky.
devs probably should look at stellaris, that recently implemented wonderful system to prevent death spirals, in addition to "virtual market" that was here for ages.
both systems are designed for AI actually, but players can benefit from them in same way as AI do.
