Drowning in Cargo - get rid of?
I am drowning in several cargo items (metal scrap, rubber etc.) spilling all over my shipyard... is there a way to get rid of it (cant trade it, dont want to build dozens of "dead"torage facilities)?

No. You basically have to build those dozens of "dead" Storage facilities.

It's one of the annoying aspects of the game, and the devs have some awareness of it, but I'm not sure if they've committed to solving the issue.

Uhm you get rid of those items by consuming them? Acticate the "smelt scrap" recipe in your furnaces and move it to the top of the list, to prioritze it over ore.

How far into the game are you, and how do those items pile up? I feel like I'm missing something here. Sometimes you need a bit of buffer storage capacity, eg. if you deconstruct a lot at once, but you sure don't need to always build more and more "dead" storage.

Use it? You can smelt metal scrap to iron/steel. The rubber is needed for belts and electronic components.

Well... i dont want to use it. Expeditions return cargo my well balanced economy doesnt need :)

Its easier to set up a small machine to use the cargo then just leave it there.

have you clicked the "keep empty" toggle?

This will make your trucks activley attempt to empty the storage - just switch off your rubber making/iron ore mining until the dock is empty

Would be cool if there was an ejection port on the shipyard. That way you could set up a sorting system, that would keep it empty automatically.

I setup a small storage area with just a couple level II storage buildings when I was getting (electronics II and servers mostly) way before I even had the tech to make the buildings to then use them. Just made sure my trucks had space to get to them later, once I was up and using the items set them to keep empty. After they were used up I demolished the buildings. By that point I was far enough into the tech tree I was only losing one or two construction parts from making the buildings in the first place.

Unless your going to use it... then there is noway to get rid of it. Idk why your not importing scrap and rubber from the docks... the system will take it anyway... my cement maker always needs sand and slag all the time... one of the other runs out all the time, if one gets full it switchs to the other recipe, etc. turn scrap iron and iron ore on, and same thing will happen, once scrap runs out it will switch to iron etc.

Mine has the same issues. I keep it set to "keep empty", and even when I have warehouses that have free space, the trucks don't seem to come move things around.

I've even halted my production lines until my warehouses were EMPTY - and still have this stuff stuck in my shipyard.

I'm not even playing atm because of this. I can't do sea missions because I can't load the big ship with materials because I can't get the yard emptied out. I've tried all the above mention work-arounds. My trucks are quite busy so maybe they just can't get around to it AND I'm short on workers so.. not sure what to do. Love the game though so far!

A trick I do is put a balancer on my resource line and put a storage feeding into the balancer with priority that is set to take the good I want off the dock. With the dock set to empty the trucks will move the stuff to the storage which then gets put into my production line ahead of what my normal sources do. I do this with copper early game for instance since I always get copper set up before doing early exploration that gives lots of copper.

Did you set priority to P1 on the shipyard?

Same issues. Dock full of materials I cannot get the trucks to pick up. Just built a second dock to deconstruct the first but apparently I cant switch the ship assignment to the new dock?
