Comprehensive guide on turbines?
I've done a few layouts but I am struggling to understand the turbines systems and the way you stack them.

My current turbines I attempted to do 2 turbines + 4 generators but only the first 2 generators spin. If I separate the two turbines into two systems, all 4 generators work.

I realized this stuff wasn't as straight forward as I though when I unlocked level 2 turbines on my first save and attempted to assemble a 6 high 3 low single array of turbines and couldn't get 1 generator to start.

If single turbines seem to work better, why stack them?

Are you using enough power for the other 2 generators to need to spin?
Magistar 27 jun, 2022 @ 4:31
Generators only spin when they need to. That way the mechanical power is stored in the shaft and flywheels. If there is no demand no generators will spin. You can use the priority to determine which generators start turning first.

There is https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2821314163 this guide. Didn't go over it myself but it looks comprehensive.

So the efficiency stat on the turbine means current functioning level percent and not it's top value with the setup I have?

Makes sense about the generators not running.

Efficiency is the ratio of how much input gets properly converted into power. Like, when a turbine starts up it uses full steam right away, but since it needs some time to spin up it won't give full output until it's up to speed.

That's where the flywheels come in, the more of them you got on the shaft, the more max inertia can be stored, the longer the turbines can run at full speed (fully efficient).

I'm not an expert at troubleshooting this, I'm still confused why all 4 generators would spin when you do 2 seperate systems (assuming the same power draw). Maybe a stupid question, but is there actually enough steam coming in on the big setup ? Also, have you set both of them to auto-balance?

Yeah, the designs were about 4 hours apart so power requirements were up when I split them.
