Memory leak's back, confirmed with Task Manager
Nothing else to say other than screw SMS/Jetpack and whoever else was responsible for this port.

Tried playing it again today, it's had multiple patches since the last time I touched it. The memory leak is back. After about 40 minutes, my whole computer froze and rebooted. I figure "hmm must be an unstable OC". I dial my CPU and GPU to their default settings, and I have Task Manager running in the background.

Lo and behold, after about 30 minutes of playtime, I start getting stutters, and Task Manager reports that nearly 75% of my RAM (of which I have 32 GB) is being used, most of it by God of War. 10 minutes later, the RAM usage keeps going up, until I get the same crash and reboot.

6 months since release, 2 months since SMS did any sort of update, and now total radio silence.

The game itself is fantastic. This sucks.

I also have 32gb of ram and i haven't experienced it. So it must be on certain setups. I played tonight over 4 hours and never had any problems with a memory leak. So i'm thinking it's on certain setups. I'm not saying it don't exist i'm just saying it hasn't happened to me and that it might be certain peoples setups.

You may be right, but it's certainly a leak in my experience. Man, what a bummer though, I really like the game :c

Could be, but it's certainly the case in my experience. Man, what a bummer though, I really like the game :c
So do i.

I'm wondering do you use gforce experience? I kinda remember reading some where that it was causing memory leaks with games. I never used it had no need. But i haven't heard good things about it.

Nah I have a 6900 XT. I have to say though, the AMD performance has improved, though that may be due to the driver updates.

But yeah, I'm at a point where I don't know what to do.

I'll try verifying the game files. I hadn't touched the game for months before today, maybe the patched files need to be fixed? I'll do that tomorrow, I'll post an update.

Maybe it's the amd gpu causing the problem. Cause i'm using a amd ryzen 3900x and an msi rtx 2060 super. I'm not saying it is the amd gpu's but it was just a thought. I'm not sure what could be causing it.

Hmmm, not sure how that would cause God of War to sap so much RAM. If it happens again, even after verifying the game files through Steam, I'll DDU and reinstall the latest Radeon driver. I'll post an update tomorrow.

You know me as an all AMD user all this time and I went play this game for about an hour for this post. So far no memory leak for me. I'm using the latest driver namely AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition 22.7.1. Hope you can solve the problem soon

I'm getting random crashes too. I used to play this game for hours without crashes, now it happens in a matter of minutes....

UPDATE:

Was able to play for about an hour without stutters, abnormal RAM usage, or crashes. So, what changed? 2 things:

1) Verified the integrity of the game files through Steam. Before yesterday, the game was left untouched for months. So my theory is that with the last few patches, some files weren't patched properly. Steam detected that 29 files were either missing or corrupt, so it replaced them after it'd verified all the files.

2) Windows being Windows. For some reason, the device installation setting (driver install) was set back to "automatic". This is a huge no-no. Why? Well, Windows likes to use untested/generic drivers for certain devices (including a mobo's chipset), so stability and compatibility become an issue. By looking at the event viewer, I saw that Windows had tried to automatically "update" the B550 chipset driver but reported a failure around right before I experienced my crashes mentioned above. Did a clean reinstall of everything AFTER disabling Windows' automatic install.

Pretty sure my crashes were due to the corrupted/missing files, but who knows. I'll keep testing the game later. So far though, the results are promising.

Its your Setup for 100%. You trying to blame it on certain people, is really an a$$ move. Yes, certain things are their fault, but not what you describe. What you say here, is that your system is "fine" and that it must be the games fault, stop tryint to blame and accept its on your end.

I havent even had a single crash, playing since release, and this was BEFORE the updates. You arent even asking for a suggestion here, and then you saying the game is great but this sucks, is because you dont want too much flame, and try to cover up for your ♥♥♥♥♥♥ points.

What.

My guy, of course I said the game is great. Am I not allowed to like the game DESPITE facing problems? I stated my observations and did some tests. The hell does that have to do with covering my ass? I wanted other people's opinions on this, and I made a point about liking the game so that people would understand my eagerness to have a smooth gaming experience. The hell are you smoking?

People have stated other issues in other parts of the GoW forums, why are you singling me out? More importantly, why do you see this as an attack against GoW? I was only sharing my experiences and reported them for FEEDBACK in order to solve the issue.

Hell, if you'd bothered reading my posts above, you'd have seen that I found the possible culprits. I just wanted to play the damn game.

And AGAIN, the memory leak was a huge deal in the game's early days. Don't discount other people's reports that have been backed by the devs themselves. People are also very much still frustrated over the devs' lack of response to support tickets. Which is why I myself was frustrated when starting this post, I just wanted answers, be it regarding the port OR possible solutions specific to my setup.

I'm genuinely curious as to why you think it's okay to accuse me of certain things just because you've had a different experience.

Had several memory leaks today. Validating game files doesn't work; deleting the game and downloading it back won't work either. However, one single reboot of the system solves it totally. Now I can play it without memory leaks.

Glad we both found our own solutions. I'll test the game again later and hope it's as smooth as yesterday's session like I posted above.
