AMD Graphics Stuttering and Low FPS in God of War Acknowledged by AMD
Look what I found on the latest AMD Driver release notes under known issues:

"Stuttering or lower than expected FPS values may be experienced by some users while playing God of War on some AMD Graphics Products such as Radeon® RX 6900 XT Graphics."
Source: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-22-2-1

So even AMD admits there is a problem. Would it kill the God of War devs and AMD to actually test games on AMD hardware well ahead of release to prevent these kinds of problems? Is that too much to ask and am I unreasonable and entitled?

AMD when will you fix your terrible driver overhead for DX11?

Hey Moe, i remember you from the RE:Village forum and i think, that you can answer me a question:

1. did you use a AMD Card?

2. what did you mean with: terrible driver overhead for DX11

Usually you can see a driver overhead, if your CPU has a +90% usage and your GPU do nearly nothing and deliver only a handful frames...?!

So please explain "terrible driver overhead for DX11" for me.

DirectX overhead/CPU overhead/driver overhead means that in DirectX 11 mode AMD's driver eats a substantial chunk of CPU resources and leaving the rest for the game itself. On the other hand Nvidia's drivers eats this chunk less than AMD's drivers. Leaving more room for the game at hand.

edit - AMD Radeon handles DX12/Vulkan muuuuuuch better in that regard.

Okay mate, thank you. But a third last question:

If i play GoW with a constant GPU usage of 95-99% and my CPU is bored with 20-25% usage... can we then speak from a "terrible driver overhead for DX11"?

btw: i play a full AMD Rig 6900XT@5800x

are you having issues with the game? any stuttering or drops?
Moe Feb 3, 2022 @ 3:58pm
you have a nice rig so you shouldn't have any issues at all playing this game. BUT... it could be way better for you if the game was made in DX12 or Vulkan. this doesn't have anything to do with CPU bottleneck, clearly not. you got 8c/16t. it's a software problem.

I have area-loading-stutters at explicitly the same places in the game (what concerns everyone). They can all be reproduced everytime. So it's a DEV problem to fix the datastreaming.

But stuttering or framedrops from nowwhere? NO!

...1. did you use a AMD Card?

i've used many of "AMD Cards" DX11 isn't their strong-suit, just like DX12 isn't Nvidia's.

Yeah, I knew I was going to have to wait MONTHS just to play God of War. I should have gotten that refund when I had the chance, but I held out hope that it would be fixed sooner or later. What a complete mess this is.

One of the reasons won’t ever own AMD gpus. There is ALWAYS some issue with them when it comes to certain games. You’d think since the PS4 was an amd apu that there wouldn’t be issues like this.

Actually it's nearly always the developer's/publisher's fault.

Right and I don’t understand why. I had a chance to get a 6900XT back in early December and I went with a 3080 just to avoid stuff like this.

just saw this. uhg. Hope they can fix this sooner rather than later.

From the latest God of War 1.0.5 patch notes:
"Lastly, while we do not have a timeline, we want to communicate that we have identified the primary cause leading to AMD performance problems and are now investigating solutions to resolve this issue."
