I play on NG+ CHALLENGING....yes CHALLENGING => I died in the first 5 minutes more than I died in every Dark Souls game....seriously.
The enemy agro is just too much!
Combat is a real weakness of this game.
The camera is the real enemy in this game. It handles multiple opponents quite poorly.
Well it's not the same hack and slash series it was in the PS2 days, alas. This one clearly just borrowed the Souls design and went with that. It's not terrible but it's very different and too exploitable. Also felt that the bosses were very lame and too cinematic outside of maybe the last valkyrie boss...but even that one was just recycled from all the valkyrie fights before it.
Also, be aware that you get a few things later to ruin the game...like items that will refill both health and the rage meter over time. Going into every fight with full rage is about as OP as it sounds, especially if you upgrade to the rage rock-throw move...it can take out a troll in two throws on most modes.
I will agree the strength of the game is the exploration and the world with the combat just kind of being there.
Interesting that items like that exist. Never got those items. Beat the game a couple days ago. Overall, it was pretty easy I thought.
Didn't do Valkyries or anything like that. Tried one and it was basically just a huge hit point sponge. Don't feel like grinding the materials for the gear that makes them doable.
It seems to have been made by people who wanted a game as HARD as the souls games, but with absolutely no concept of what makes the difficulty in the souls games good or fair. DS1,2,3, Sekiro, Elden Ring -- played all of them. Souls games are good because they reliably punish you for a mistake, and after it happens, you can see what you did wrong.
GoW will fully spawn a ranged enemy behind you, then shoot you with it in the middle of a scuffle. You overcome that by learning where the ranged enemy spawns after the first wave on your second try. That sucks.
