startLoop:
- 3 min of (quite) fun combat gameplay ("quite", because I don't like controls mapping)
- 5 min of exploration with that stupid son saying stupid things
- 5 min pour enigma with that stupid son saying stupid things.
goto startLoop;
HOWEVER.
Little spoiler: at 40% of the game, your child get sicks, so you don't have him with you anymore. Best part of the game ! :D
You also get a second weapon at the same time which is more fun.
After, of course, you get your son back, but it's a little more interesting.
I wouldn't say the second part of the game is a GOTY, but it's a good 14/20.
First part is 8/20.
I had to give a chance... 4 times... to this game to complete the first part. So... I don't know what to advise to you.
I still don't get what's so bad about the kid. I have 20 hours in so far and I don't give it a second thought in what he says. I like having the kid during combat with his bow.
I think people buy games with themes they really don't care for and that's a factor.
If the best game in the world was Ninja Turtles, I wouldn't like it. I would be like, they are turtles and that's just stupid... hehehe
It's the pacing that gets me. But as Zeprince already stated it's just especially bad in the first parts of the game. The Freya section was just a complete snorefest of holding W for 15-30 minutes.
I mean the game already interrupts you for over half the playtime with QTEs and cutscenes - but yea; that is what the game is. Just the walking sections in the beginning really get to me. Hard time not falling asleep.
I mean the game was released as a complete change to the previous beat infinite baddies model to a more older thoughtful Kratos. I expected that when getting it.
I'm in the same boat at the moment. Playing it feels like an absolute chore.
So much menial work combined with never ending unskippable cutscenes. It's so conflicted on what it wants to be - even if the story it tells is great I'm trying to play a game here.
Sometimes you get rewarded with another 5 minutes fight (most likely another troll) before having to go back to 10-15 minutes of cutscenes and just walking.
I hated the puzzles. All of them are so easy to solve but they are still time consuming because of how they are setup. Then there's those hidden loading screens behind the door opening animations. The constant rope climbing, rock climbing, squeezing through cracks.
And then you always run into chests you can't access yet because you don't have a specific ability unlocked. They expect me to run all the way back there for a single chest later in the game. They can eff right off with that garbage game design that wastes the players time.
Agreed.
It got monotonous. It felt like it was the introduction to the game for most of the game time. I suppose a lot of games have been feeling that way in recent years though (and it wasn't unheard of in many older games too).
I like a good Metroidvania, but so much of the backtracking here just felt dumb and not very rewarding. Usually more of a "do you have X ability yet? No? ♥♥♥♥ off. Yes? Okay, here you go." check, rather than a clever puzzle.
Still, I think the severe lack of enemy variety and sheer number of recycled boss encounters was inexcusable.
Or maybe he's a fan of the real God of War and not this dumbed down Disney remake version?
