Can't let go of gate chain in Stone Falls

At Stone Falls entrance I pull a chain to close the big gate in order to open another gate to the two chests in the battle area. But after that Kratos can't let go of the chain and move around. Walkthroughs for Stone Falls on Youtube show that once he lowers or raises the gate he can simply walk away. Instead he is stuck holding the chain and the only action possible is to raise or lower the gate or throw and retrieve his axe which does nothing. To get out of it I have to reload an earlier save. Is this a bug? Any suggestions?

Did you press the action button? Should be E by default.

That worked, thanks. I didn't see an E icon after lowering the gate and didn't know to press it.
