God of War Vs Elden RIng My opinion to help others decide

TLDR version

Elden Ring is open world, so you will more than likely get more gameplay out of it.

GOW combat is more fluid and rewarding, less punishing.




From what little time I played GOW here is my take.


Great Story.
Fun
Smooth Combat.
Engaging.
Overall a real joy to relax to, and multiple settings to increase the difficulty.

Cons. Cant skip cut scenes, but they are good enough do you really want to?(maybe you can I dont know)


Elden RIng.
Huge open world
Many various build options
potentially much longer gameplayability


Cons. Odds are strong you might toss your mouse or controller in a fit of rage.


Overall both are good


Elden Ring=Open World with high Stress Gameplay

GOW= Stunning game with engaging combat


Do note I have only an hour or so in this game and like 200 in Elden RIng, but I think I can make a fairly educated opinion.


I was torn between this and Dying Light 2. I made the right choice.

I read reviews and wasnt sure how I would like it as an Elden RIng fan. But I dont really see any direct comparison. One is open world with tons of options and controller breaking induced stressed-the other is a cinematic action rpg to relax to with some quick time like dodging events. I like boith.

I have never watched or played Elden Ring so my knowledge of it is very minimal, but I imagine it's more gameplay oriented than story while GoW is the opposite? It just seems like people want to compare apples to oranges by rubbing friction between them.

People comparing them is what made me hold off so long and I regret it now. So as a fan of both games, you are mostly correct. Elden does have a story, but not to this level.

Elden Ring you are pretty much free to do anything you want. Here you have more of a guided tour and free to go within the confine. But this game feels so much more relaxing and also engaging. I am going to enjoy this.


Elden Ring is brutal in many ways toward new players and to mistakes. But fun still.


Bottom line is, my reason for posting is to tell people on the fence about buying this, to go ahead and do it. If you like Elden Ring, you will enjoy this.


However, if you like this, Elden Ring might be a bit different. I can see ER players liking this more than GOW players liking ER. But meh, I am going to enjoy both.

The only thing I don't like is being interrupted but that's just part of the "stun" gameplay.

i dont know why people consider Elden Ring or any Souls Game Hard or difficult i guess these young kids never played in an Arcade or the original TMNT for the NES. the Elden Ring bosses all have predictable patterns of attacks you can literally count them with your fingers the only real difficulty is the poor optimizations. DX12 implementation is horrible doesn't use your CPU and PU efficiently. there is no pre shader cache so your first play through will be stuttering mess. also they mapped dodge roll and dash to 1 key or button. and you cant change it so there is severe input lag due to the game has to figure out what youre trynig to do

Elden Ring is just a Dark Souls game without any level design. No one seriously thinks it's a good open world. Whenever you get to a new area you just round a corner and suddenly there's a desert there, it's like Dark Souls 2 all over again, but more featureless.

Easy pick: God of War. I am an RPG guy and I like to see stats/perks on my gear and Elden ring has such BORING armor progression with NO set bonus effects or player power perks, also the combat in GoW is WAY more fun and epic, so GoW all the way!
