The appeal of this game
I never understood it. Back when it came out I played it for an hour on ps4 and uninstalled. You walk around, hes saying hey boy, then the boy hunts a deer, then he cries, you fight a troll, you fight this one boss guy that is returning like 5 more times during the story or whatever and then theres a couple more oh boy and a couple more deers and trolls.

Like... why is this so appealing to so many people. I played the original games, even the psp spin offs and I liked them alot, playing throgh all of them gave me tendonitis which I still have after all these years and I am not sour about it, but this Nordic stuff I never understood man.

Its not for everyone... if you don't find it appealing thats your choice and no one can question your opinion.... play something else instead which you find more fun and enjoyable

Like I never understand why some people expect other people to explain why they like or dislike something to them. But ofc this is not OP's question I'll just give a hint. For me, the appeal is videos like these two exist:

You did a pretty terrible job of summing it up lol. You summed up the first 10 mins of intro with a heavy tone of disdain.

The reason people love this game so much is because the world is absolutely massive, and this game nails gameplay on many different levels. The combat is 10/10, the puzzles are 7/10, the exploration is 9/10, and the gear grind/upgrading is 7/10.

If you decide you dislike a game during the intro, then thats on you. Dont judge a book by its cover. This game is unlike any other ever made as far as attention to detail goes. This is probably the first game in my 32 years of living that had massive hype but ended up being even better than the hype. That didnt even happen in the 90s, the golden era of gaming.

This is also a perfect example of "good games tell good stories, better games tell stories good". The story is simple yet is told in a miraculous way. Same way all God of War games tell stories. Santa Monica lets the gameplay drive the tone. This is a lost art that game developers have forgotten about unfortunately. The presentation of the story is so good for a video game that I dont think the english language has any words that can do it justice.

Idk who those YTers are... never cared for their videos and never will... I just played the game for what it was and had an absolute blast.

Not my loss to miss much and fail to see the full potential of the game

Lack of variety and quantity when it comes to bosses is a valid complaint, but other than that, playing for an hour or so hardly let's you see anything of what the game has to offer. No guarantee to eventually like it, especially since it is so different from the previous games, but you should play a bit more than basically half of the tutorial. This game is slow to introduce most of its features which has the benefit of keeping things fresh later, but the downside is it can feel repetitive and restricted early on.

I basicly played until unlocking the first vendor guy that walks around with his animal partner, then I stopped. I am very tempted to give it another chance on steam though.

Shocker to you but the game isn't repetitive or restricted early on at all. The only reason people would feel it that way is because they play at a lower difficulty and they don't know how many mechanics there are in the game early on so they can hack their way through without having any thoughts. Give Me God of War difficulty is not that difficult when those mechanics are put to good use and it's super fun to put them to good use early on

This game has limited replay value to me at least... I did 2 100% runs and maxed out everything. Nothing else to do after that...

Not surprised. As far as I can see 100% twice equals finally being a decent rookie to the game. Hey I won't tell you how you should enjoy the game but if I were you I wouldn't have proudly announced "I did 2 100% runs" either

I get you since I'm in the same boat. The combat gameplay seems kinda repetitive though satisfying. However it's the story that totally doesn't do it for me. I don't like kids so the whole father-son arc doesn't work for me

Shocker to you, I played the game on Normal and on GmGoW on PS4, so I know what features the game introduces when. Fact is, it unlocks them gradually over the course of the game and I wasn't talking about combat only anyways. "Uhm, aaactually, if you play on überhardcoredeathtotheplayer setting and already know the game in and out you will have a more complex experience", isn't helpful for talking about the initial impression most players will have by just checking the game out for an hour or so.

Shocker to you, knowing more makes people enjoy the game better while the opinions of the people who know nothing about it don't hold much value. Your experiences on this game doesn't amount to much in my eyes because they certainly can't help you see it

I am giving the game a second chance, bought it on Steam. Will try and see how it makes me feel after I played more than when it came out 2 years ago.
