he grew as a character along side his audience. before the games likely where more aimed towards like very young adults or teens. Plus back then was a different time, games usually where not as serious. But yeah I never played the old ones just watched lore stuff, since well there isnt all that much story to the old games and I dont feel safe spending money on the remaster or what ever unless its deep on sale. Because likely ill get bored of playing them.
But yeah likely after killing his father and stuff he then went to a different land, had time to reflect/meditate. met that girl had a kid, and didnt wanna repeat the past. Plus maybe his look change helps, since he doesnt look like part of an edgy heavy rock band anymore :^)
Yeah he looks odd. I almost think the mods didnt model him right, because during the flashback moments in hel he looks fine with that long soulpatch. The mods his face looks slightly different than what it looks like in hel.

Oh yeah, because they gave him a ♥♥♥♥ stain stash! That type of stash looks terrifying no matter the person lol, those super thicc ones. I dont mind mustaches but those thicc ones just look both creepy and weird. No clue why people think that looks good LOL. Just make it not as thicc and it would look fine.
Well on kratos his stash wouldnt ever look fine, it doesnt fit him lol.
I mean most people dont have a psp so that part is 100% on the DEVS and sony them selves. But people can also just watch a youtube video.
I think often times why people think he is poorly written is because the mainline gow 1 to 3 does not have all that much story, especially compared to gow 4 and 5. You can watch a maybe 20 minute video on all the games pre gow 4, and understand exactly what is going on. Then again you can do a 1 min video of how 4 and understand whats going on, but you miss the like 40 hours of inbetween which is the good part of gow 4. Since well the over all story is very generic. "bring mom to big mountain spread ashes"
The whole twist with the first games was that Kratos was at fault for everything that happened to him. His revenge was arguably unwarranted yet you got to play him as he destroyed the world while going after it. It's a unique situation where the player is playing as a guy who is "in the wrong" but we still have to help him fulfill his goal. He's killing god after god when, in the end, Kratos was the one who led to everything bad that happened to him. That's his arc and it's very unique for the time. The original game never implies that the world is better after Kratos's actions and he's shown killing innocents throughout the series, including starting his own wars in the 2nd game.
With nuGoW, he's the exact same as every antihero...he's ashamed of his past and trying to make amends and be a good father and blahblahblah...it's the exact same story you see from every hero trying to redeem a shaky past.
And nuGoW doesn't even try to be ambiguous about the gods...Odin and Thor are portrayed as the evilest of evils so there's never any grey area about Kratos's actions...he's opposing those big evil gods who make everything worse for everyone. In the original games, it shows Kratos ruining parts of the world and hurting humanity with his actions...there's NONE of that nuance in nuGoW. Kratos is goodguy and Odin/Thor are badguys and that's that.
People act like because a character acts quiet and serious and has more dialogue then it means they're "deeper." There's nothing deep about this Kratos. it's lazy good vs evil like any game. Just another cliched antihero in a gaming world full of them.
