Do I need to play the previous god of war games to play this one

I played all previous ones. So far not really story wise. BUT i would recommend you do because they're really great and you get to see an arrogant young crazy god mode Kratos vs this chill version of him. Character development for Kratos is a must experience.

You don't have to, but you should. You will understand the character progression more. The story will hit harder if you know the previous events.

Isn't that what's revealed in the first 30 minutes of the game? He killed his wife and daughter btw.

It doesn't cost anything to show a little decency and not spoil the earlier games.

For the record. I don't care as I already played all the games multiple times.

You're definitely missing out , the early titles are a lot more bold and exciting.

Yep. Got this on PS4 years back myself, and when a certain instrumental number started playing, I knew. No doubt you did as well. ;)

The story itself is pretty stand alone but you would benefit from knowing what happened. If you plan on playing them all, playing this first will also work well
