In the other invocations that are usually in the middle of the arena, if you already have the blades, use the other 2 runic attacks, to try to eliminate as many minions as possible. If you leave 2 or 1 minion alive, it may take a little longer to another summon (may be just my impression). And here when necessary use the summon of Atreus.
You might want to kill her as soon as possible, but you can come back at the end of the game, being level 8 or even 9 (if it's your first playthrough) and you probably won't have any difficulties.
Atreus is less than worthless, his arrows do nothing to stave off glowy eyed enemies, they are only interested in fighting me, turning the whole fight into a giant clusterf***. I really, really despise this fight. It combines everything that I hate in video games; trash mobs, damage sponges and useless friendly AI. I would much rather fight Sigrun with base stats than this.
I beat Kara on my first go. Just saying.
Learn patterns, dodge, use shield, level up ?, continue the story and come back later, get better stuffs, upgrades your runics attacks, VISIT THE MAP TO UPGRADE YOUR LIFE AND RAGE BAR !!!!!! ... there is plenty of things to do instead of wasting 4 hrs on something you know is almost impossible in your current state (lack of skill, bad mindset and stuff blablabla....).
And patch changed nothing, this is cognitive bias or false memories of difficultie level. Maybe you were not level 5 when you previously beat her, didn't have the same stuff, same runics, same mindset when you played, same experience of the game, she didn't do the same pattern as your current game... blablablabla
You just need to try 10 min the boss to estimate your chances to win and then ask yourself if it's better to continue or leave. Your judgement seems ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up here. You loose more than 5-10 times in a row without reaching a specific life bar (50% HP ? 30 % ?) ? Leave, next.
Use runics attacks of all your weapons at the begining of the match to do a lot of damages quickly, use arows to deal little bits of damage (yes, little bit but it's ok), push enemies of the edge (the shield / your fists and feets / charged attacks / runics can push them out of the map), use your rage (Very important !), dodge, dodge again, use your shield, dodge blablabla... use runics again when they are available, rince and repeat.
Equip everything that gives you reduce cooldown on runics attacks, add frost damage or burning damage, upgrade to max your runics, come with rage bar filled to max and rez stone.... hophophop goodbye Kara
I beg to differ... it completely depends on when you fight her...
If you fight her at the earliest possible (when you are at the witch cave as soon as you heal Atreus) then she is a lot harder cos you are only around lvl 5 or 6 so and don't have a lot of runic options and much cooldown either. Thats when I fought her on GMGOW difficulty. She was the second Valkyrie I fought after Gunnr.
Moreover as per you she is the second easiest Valkyrie which leads me to intepret that you are saying Eir is harder than her... something is definitely wrong (considering Gunnr is the easiest).
If you fight the Valkyries at the earliest possible chance, here is the likely order you do them...
Gunnr
Kara
Olrun (totally depends on when you decide to visit Alfheim)
Geirdriful
Eir
Rota (totally depends on when you decide to visit Helheim after escaping from there)
Hildr (depends on when you decide to grind Niflheim)
Gondul (depends on when you decide to grind Muspelheim)
Sigrun
Based on difficulty, here is how I rank them excluding Sigrun who is ofc the hardest.
Geirdriful
Kara
Rota
Gondul
Olrun
Hildr
Eir
Gunnr
Like I said before, I'd fought her before, but you are right, sometimes a slight deviation in stats can completely change the course of a fight in this game, for better or worse. As I said, I never struggled with other Valkyries, not even Sigrun. The main reason being is that all the other Valkyrie fights are 1v1. Most people, even dumbasses like me can eventually memorise attack patterns of a single enemy. Kara is a different ballgame due to the add factor.
While her moveset is very bare bones, it's very difficult for me to juggle fighting a Valkyrie while fending off trash mobs that are cluttering the screen, my brain simply cannot multitask fast enough. Add on top of that the draugrs she summons can take you out in two hits and it's a recipe for a rage induced brain aneurysm.
It's not necessary to have healed Atreus to face Kara, once you get the Chisel it's possible.
If we put them all in order of when it is possible to face them (ignoring the difficulty of each one) it looks like this:
1 - Gondul (Muspelheim);
2 - 4 Valkyries from Midgard + 1 from Alfheim;
7 - Rota (Helheim);
8 - Hildr (Niflheim);
9 - Sigrun.
You can definitely go to Muspelheim very early but the trials are just way too difficult without having all the upgrades and runic attacks. On NG+ that is possible ofc but not on NG as it becomes way too difficult.
