Greek Gods get Stronger with Age and Kratos is holding back his true power to not fall again into the Full Rage Mode. So i would say Old Kratos is the Strongest Version

he never really fights anyone super strong in this game, compared to previous games, so there's no way to tell. I reckon we'll see his true strenght in Ragnarok

Do 'gods' really get weaker as they age?

You guys have to remember, Kratos is only a demi-god. I'd say he's more bulky and capable of more strength, he just lacks the stamina.

believe someone said that the older the greek gods get the stronger they become, kratos is the strongest hes ever been, but hes holding himself back and in check prob for his son and himself cause he prob just wants to retire with all the horrible ♥♥♥♥ hes done and went through.
Pretty much this. The whole story is plastered with Kratos trying to hide his identity and trying to be as low-key as he can, while also holding himself back all the time (rage wise) so his son doesn't realise who he actually is.

Teaching his son to fight, letting him play a bigger role each time he improves, etc. supports the idea that he is still a big deal.

The fights against Baldur demonstrate how much Kratos has grown, Baldur being one of the strongest war gods had to rely on his curse to survive fights where Kratos doesn't even use his full abilities (and also not being really rage fueled most of the time).

If the 2018 version was as enraged as "back in the days" he would wreck his old version every single time.

Athena and Zeus made him a full on god after he beat Ares in the first game. In GOW 2 he lost all of his godly powers when he wielded the blade of Olympus. In 3 he killed Hades and absorbed his soul so we don’t really know if he’s back to being a full god but Cory Barlog did say that Kratos IS a full fledged god.

Current Kratos feels like he lost his "edge" In the previous games his power was not only sustained by the powers bestowed upon him, but by his undying vicious rage and lust for revenge. Once Revenge was obtained, what did he have left to fight for? With that the passion drained from him and with it the ceiling of his ability to summon his strength.

Kratos seems to channel loss into rage and losing himself to rage is something he continuously tries to avoid doing in this game. Just sticking to the early game of GOW4, He admonishes Atreus for giving into anger. He quite clearly holds himself back in the Stranger fight until the Stranger tries to find out what Kratos is hiding which is when Kratos enables Spartan Rage, probably for the first time in many years. He is out of practice and the anger that broke him out of melancholy was out of concern about losing his son.

Good post. Speaking as a dad myself I can tell you nothing gets you madder than someone messing with your kids. THAT is a whole different type of rage lemme tell you.

I would say God of War 2018 Kratos is the strongest, but the one that holds back the most. Mind you, during the Greek Saga he was hellbent on revenge and wanted to get even, just to get betrayed around the next corner. In this game he just have a task, that actually is not connected to vengeance, but the wish of his late wife. He only fights if he needs to, especially when it comes to Atreus. While I have not finished this game; everytime Atreus is to be in mortal danger, Kratos is moving mountains so to speak. So yeah, this one is the strongest, but also not the one driven by pure rage and revenge.

This new version of kratos in spartan rage is probably far stronger than old kratos that was costantly in that state, he is just trying to not fall in that state again and probably put much more resistence and control on himself.

At the end of GOW 3, Kratos stabbed himself dispersing the power of "hope" or "the light" as it is described in the Norse mythology in the Elves lore. Athena was gonna use it to revive the Greek pantheon, but Kratos hated the gods so much he stabbed himself. The corruption is also present in GOW4 which is the same the corrupted Zeus. There's a theory going on that Odin was the one that planted the curruption magic in the pandora's box to start the war between Titans and the Zeus because the greek gods might contribute to the Ragnarok.

Since he only half god and half human it would make sense he getting weaker with age. Powers of a god but still is human.

Also you could say Kratos is holding back trying to set an example for his son.

Idk all the story completely, but i believe he became a full god after defeating Ares, although born human.
