PC player who never played GoW franchise. What do?

Hi there! I've never had a console and never played God of War. Was wondering if I should get this game and jump right in, or if I should look up some backstory on youtube first.

This is my first, you can jump in quite easily however some general knowledge about norse mythology is preferable, maybe not too much as that may help you to spoil some things but yeah some just some general knowledge will help. (my knowledge was simply what I had learnt from marvels thor and attack on titan, also don't confuse this for GREEK mythology, which was what the original games were based around)

You're good to go, feel free to jump in. If you want a little back story you should be able to find a 10min video on youtube that sums up the story so far but this is essentially a reboot so go for it.

You could download RCPS3 and play through all God of War games before this but its not required, though I do suggest playing through Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta

Your best best is look up a God of war 1-3 all cinematics on youtube. Should be a few. It's what i did since i never played the first 3 games.

You don't need to know the story of the previous games.
I think that the story of older games was rather good, I expecially appreciated God of war 2 story, God of war 2 is absolutely exceptional in every way, and the story is very good too expecially for an action game, but the best thing you can do is to play those games I don't know if it is worth it to just watch long videos that explain you a story meant to be experienced in a different way (playing it) and that you ultimately do not really need to enjoy this game.

While one may not need to play the past games to enjoy this one, having even just the knowledge of what happened in them will greatly help feeling more attached to kratos. A good example is the conflict with Kratos and the chaos blades and his reluctance to use them. Why he is so distant. Stuff like that.

My wife showed me a compilation of the previous GOW in a movie format and that was enough to get me into the story. At first you think Kratos is a violent dumbass but to watch his development was incredible, by the final moments of the trilogy there is such character development that I didn't expect in this kind of game. Watched the movie style of this GOW and makes Kratos even better character.

There are plenty of quick lore catchups on YT, though they're largely unnecessary. All you need to know is; Kratos is from Sparta, Ares tricked him into killing his wife and daughter whose ashes give him that white appearance, Kratos killed Ares in vengeance and took his place in the Greek Pantheon as god of war, Kratos went on to p!ss off/kill a number of other greek gods (especially Zeus and Athena) and eventually had to go into hiding after bringing about the fall of Greece. This game starts with Kratos incommunicado and hiding from his past.

It is always good if you know the whole lore and story, but the game works even if you are new to the franchise, and have clue.

Great material if you want to know the full story, enjoy greek mythology and the boss battles are one of the best designs I saw.

You can just jump in an not worry, if you really want, go download PSNOW and play them on your PC, you get a free week if im not mistaken.

Last I checked, GOW3 Remastered is on there, and not the ps3 original.
