Best HDR in a Game I've seen yet
I'm actually impressed how much of a difference there is in HDR and SDR in this Game. I also liked Horizons HDR but I feel the visual difference in GoW is much bigger.

What do you guys think?

Not the best, not the worst. Best HDR i've seen so far is from Baldurs Gate 3 EA. Worst might be RDR2 for me.

Playing on 4k 55 inch Qled, 3900x, 3070ti. So far HDR in GoW hasn't been an annoyance for me.

But yeah thats just how the HDR Mode is implemented. I recently played Guardians of the Galaxy and the HDR in that Game looks SOO much better...

In the End it's personal preference I guess. And different TVs and Monitors handle HDR differently. If you like high contrast high saturation images you will like GoWs HDR implementation, I think...

If you prefer a natural realistic image and if you are someone who disables all image ehnacements on any TV you propably won't like GoWs HDR implementation...

BTW I'm using a LG CX OLED TV and a RTX 3060ti.
I have a CX too and it looks phenomenal in HDR. Its very important to use Dynamic Tone Mapping On and NOT Hgig in this game. Its the only game where HGIG doesn't work but DTM does

I don't necessarily like a lot of saturation but I like contrasts and the feeling of depth. I therefore maybe tend to play games a bit darker and in this game I feel like the saturation is very good. Shiny and polished things shine in the sun and ruffer/darker textures look dark and not reflective. I like those kind of contrasts a lot.

So yeah I'm not so much on the naturalistic artstyle side I guess.

Haven't played Guardians yet but heard HDR coupled with RT must be a bliss.

i have been trying to adjust the HDR settings on my predator x35 and I cant get it to look good at all. Probably the worst HDR I have seen in a game so far. Sadly I had to turn it off.

I don't have HDR. What's HDR? Is it Gcard specific or monitor specific?

I've spent at least an hour trying to make it look good. HDR in this game is not that great. I noticed there a bug too. The brightness you control in SDR affect the HDR settings

It's monitor specific and the quality varies considerably. Most people probably have HDR600 and wonder why it looks so trash.

Monitor specific
High-Dynamic-Range

I use these settings
50 brightness(SDR)
50/75 (HDR)

SDR brightness settings impact HDR

HDR is absolutely amazing on my PG32UQX, fire sparks can go up to 1700 nits and it looks amazing. I dunno why they don't have a peak brightness slider, this can be a problem for lesser capable HDR displays like OLED where you want to cap peak brightness to around 600 nits. Also the default contrast is way too high with too much black crush, lower to 30-35.

The best HDR is in FF15, seriously it looks amazing with HDR. Never played RDR2 HDR but ironically, FF7 Remake HDR is pretty bad (Very washed out and dark).

EDIT: I think the main Issue I have with the HDR implementation is the fact that there are just way too many Highlights in the image. It feels like every rock and every little object has some specular highlight that triggers the TVs FULL peak brightness and all those highlights are blown out, too.

It may look "impressive" but it's not how HDR is meant to be used. There is no "balance" at all in the HDR processing. It's just HDR "IN YOUR FACE" in every Frame...

It does sound like something wrong with settings on your side, GoW has one of the best HDR implementations out here, it's truly gorgeous in this game

Thank you! I was wondering why my x35 (probably the best HDR monitor on the market) looked so bad. You have to set the SDR first then go back to HDR. Definitely a bug they need to fix.

It does look really good, I agree it's some of the best I've seen too. Stuff like gold chains look amazing, it's a stunning game really, I played it on ps4 pro and it really is a big step up. I've not got around to playing horizon on PC yet I will eventually, I played it while I had a ps4 though, good game.
