Potential Temporary Fix for Performance Issues
Launching the game with DXVK helped me a ton. Without getting too deep in all the technical details, it translates DirectX11 calls into Vulkan. This is mostly useful for running games on Linux but it can also sometimes help in scenarios like the frame drops in God of War due to a flawed DX11 implementation, graphics driver, or whatever.

1. Go grab the latest release from here (currently 1.10):
https://github.com/Sporif/dxvk-async/releases
*We want the async version to avoid shader compilation stutters.

2. Extract the tar.gz archive.
*You'll need something like 7-zip and probably have to do it twice.

3. Copy d3d11.dll and dxgi.dll from the x64 folder to the God of War game folder.
*Be sure to grab the DLLs under x64, not x32.

4. Create a new file called "dxvk.conf" in the same folder and open it up in a text editor. Make sure the text contents look like the following:
dxvk.enableAsync = True

5. Enjoy

I'm on an RX 6900 XT with a Ryzen 7 5800X. Tyr's temple was the worst area and could barely pull about 45 FPS. Now I get 75+ easily with full GPU utilization.

This obviously isn't supported and may either not help at all or cause your game to be unstable, crash, etc. Proceed at your own risk. Hopefully a patch comes out soon and we can all just enjoy the game normally.

*Probably won't do much for Nvidia users since this mostly seems to be a problem with AMD's drivers.

*The game might take awhile to launch and appear to be frozen for 10-15 seconds. Just leave it be and wait.

Yup, this works for me too. Pretty good software.

Only when I read DXVK suddenly have a headache.
Never worked for me, because of the hardware?.. I don't know :steambored:
Inside Tyr's temple I have no FPS drops, but here and there or when many enemies appear

The game was stable after I replaced the Eggrolls 7.0rc6-GE-1 and 7.2-GE-2 with Proton 6.3-8, but.. here they came, with all sorts of updating crap.. :steamsad: the game started to freeze a lot and even higher FPS drops

Unfortunately this potential fix came too late.. for me :steamsad: because I bought the game day one and I'm going to start the last challenge and I don't want my game to get "bricked" But is worth knowing that something like that exists.. so thanks for that @VektorKnight !
BTW, for other games??.. like Remnant From The Ashes or Control

Nice to see some Linux Zealots around :steamhappy:

Yeah I mostly knew about DXVK from Linux and Valve's progress on Proton. Funny that it helps on Windows as well. I actually got a doubling of performance in Baldur's Gate 3 with DXVK so its definitely worth trying other games. Yes BG3 has a native Vulkan implementation but running their DX11 build through DXVK still has superior performance. Not sure what to say about that.

Yeah maybe, but I don't see no proprietary garbage ( Derek's words.. like DT Derek ) user, trying that out..

And I will definitely try that out but not now.. as I said in another post I have one game that is so bricked, can't play it no more no matter what. I have to purge the Steam Client or the hole Linux install.

BTW I intend to move to a distro without system d.
It is true that without systemd, games will no longer be playable ?

And you have your coffee.. :demoticon:
Game runs fine in DXVK but I feel no improvement whatsoever. Glad it's helping some folks but it doesnt do much for me.
have an issues here, my fps do improve but i dont know why my game looks like a big chess board :steamsad: any solution to that?

I can't answer to that because didn't used it, but check if IT didn't messed up some "settings" related to graphics.

I quoted you because of.. "big chess board"
Well.. that happened to me when I set the brightness lower then 42, but it was more like a small chess blurry board :steammocking:

One thing that shocked me.. was another "setting" right above brightness. The game "has detected :steamfacepalm:" that my monitor is not capable of HDR..
You know... this is like.. you poor PC gamer, can't you understand? our "gamers" have HDR capable monitors or tv sets
Just as a side note, this mostly helps amd gpu users since the game runs fine on nvidia hardware.
Thanks for a possible solution, for me on a 6800XT it just causes it to crash to desktop on launch.

Is really that bad ? :steamsad: and I wanted to upgrade to AMD, but now.. I don't know, see to many complaints.
This is some kind of point where people gets divided.. :steamsad:
Alright so coming back here for some updates. I updated my driver version to the Adrenalin 22.2.3 Optional build for my 6800xt. This fix worked mostly for me. It still dips pretty low in some areas of the game (down to 40fps at times), but overall the increase in fps was significant (generally averaging 60-80fps). I don't think it's a perfect fix, but it's enough of a fix for me to actually get to play without any stuttering. Thanks for the workaround!

Glad to hear it! At this rate I'll be done with the game on DXVK before they bring out the official patch :steamfacepalm:
Well upside is that DXVK has solved the stuttering and FPS drops for the most part. The big downside is that the screen now has HEAVY checkerboard artifacts LMAO. I'll double check to make sure I followed the instruction correctly and update here if I can get it to work correctly.
Again, do not blame Santa Monica of Jet Pack. The GOW DX11 Implementation is VERY GOOD. However, you need to have a GRAPHICS CARD to be able to play.

Blame AMD: https://community.amd.com/t5/graphics/god-of-war-performance-issues-random-fps-drops-with-amd-graphic/td-p/505538

They DONT give a F!@# to their consumers, simple as that.

Unfortunately this is a known issue on some 5000 series cards and possibly some others. Could try updating your drivers just to be safe. If not, keep throwing axes at AMD till they release a proper driver patch for this game.
