If anything Sony is just being smart by advertising its sequels. PC is forever and nothing can compete with it anyway, so might as well just join it.

I agree. Just because Sony is releasing its older games on PC doesn't mean that there are no games for the PS5, because there are, and by giving a taste of its games to the PC crowd they're expecting people to go buy a PS5 to play its sequels instead of waiting 3-5 years for them to come to the PC.
Besides, the hardware cost of the PS5 is heavily subsidised by Sony (same for the Xbox Series X by Microsoft), while the PC parts don't have that price advantage, and as such a lot of people are priced out from having a good quality gaming PC.

I have a desktop with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU and AMD RX 6800 16 GB GPU, with 32 GB of RAM and a 2TB NVMe SSD. My monitor is an LG 34GN850, 3440x1440@160 Hz IPS. I'm probably in the top 1-2% of gaming performance, and I had to pay dearly for the privilege. My eyesight punishes me with noticing the slightest imperfections, otherwise if I could be a happy gamer with a console instead, I would. I would save a lot of money.

The fact that I'm an avid Europa Universalis IV fan does bind me to the PC though, even though I also play AAA games, and loved Horizon Zero Dawn. And by the way, I upgraded my graphics card because of HZD, I was only getting around 60 FPS with my RX 5700 XT at 3440x1440 in customised High/Ultra settings. Not fluid enough for me unfortunately. So I mean it when I say that I would save a lot of money if I could be a console gamer.
