Copper shovel

I'm never able to construct the copper shovel in chapter 5. I have 5 silver coins left but not the 10 necessary to complete the job. Is there any way around this...?

yes , don't take the mineshaft route in chapter 3 and you will have room for all the coins needed but you lose access to the belt that gives you more hp.

you can also pick not to buy the bow. but if you want both, river's the only way. Or wait for ch 10

The Copper Shovel and Wooden Bow are one of the split path options. You want to take the bow if you do lots of hunting, and you want the shovel if you do lots of digging. Some runs you are going to want one over the other, so you should swap it around once in a while.

You can take the river route to upgrade your cart to hold those extra 5 coins if you really want both. Otherwise later on in the game there is a way to get the bonus you missed if you took the mine route.
