How to solve Abandoned Quarry?
I've run into a catch 22 in the abandoned quarry that I can't figure out how to solve. In order to get the flower patches, I need trees. But there are none, and to get trees I'd need burnt buildings and to make burnt buildings I'd need to shine a solar condenser at a flower patch. Where do I break into this cycle? I'm not seeing anything besides lava that could burn stuff and that's just creating ash, not burning buildings.

dehumidifier on the grass to make it dry. solar condenser on dry grass to make it burn like crazy and take out buildings

the game never indicates that but i guess thats the puzzle of it

You can ignite the dry bush tiles that the dehumidifier leaves behind.

Dehumidifier in conjunction with the solar condenser is indeed the solution, but it's not a "puzzle." Puzzles can be solved with logic bc you've been given birth the tools/materials and info you need. Puzzles do not require frantic guess-and-check. I get they want it to be challenging, and they certainly could have even buried the info obscurely in the guide book, but alas... So this is just what they call "poor game design," or really lack thereof.

Uh, the dehumidifier dries out its surroundings, the solar condenser shoots a beam of concentrated sunlight, perfectly logical connection.

The only problem is that up to that point the game has been spoonfeeding the player, then suddenly stops. If anything I think all the game needs to do is stick a new tutorial popup when the player starts the second version maps saying, in essence "these maps are different, get creative, experiment with the tools at hand".

Also you'll notice that there are hints in the building description popups. The preview graphic that shows in realtime how the building functions also changes based on which map and tileset you are on, so it shows exactly how it will behave on your current map. For example, the dehumidifier actually shows the greenery turning into dried brush, so when on a new map you merely have to look at what each building does if you are stuck and eventually you will see an interaction you didn't notice before.

On the second Continental map I thought I had been blocked out of making lagoons, but watching the video play of the Mineralizer shows that it not only created rocks, but created land under those rocks, whereas on the Tropical Island version of that building, it created submerged rocks. Suddenly, there was the solution to making lagoons.

The problem here is that the in-game encyclopedia article for the Solar Amplifier says you can only start fires in tundra and fynbos, but that's not true. Fires can also be started in dry grass.

So although I think it's poop design to force players to guess through trial and error, it's even worse design to have an in-game encyclopedia that makes false statements.

Love the game, by the way. Just this one part is bad.
